Title: New Bars Installed on my '08 Ultra
Post by: Firechief2 on June 14, 2009, 10:17:38 PM
I had to go on a (4 wheeled) trip so while away I had my dealer install Wild 1 575s on my Ultra. I wanted more pull-back as my arms just weren't quite long enough for a comfortable fit, and these achieved that. I was also hoping that they would be a bit higher but I only gained about a half inch or so as best I can tell. Over-all I am happy with them ---and they certainly look beefy.

Nice bike. I too added the WO575's to my 05 Ultra and are they nice. I see you opted to keep your cables i the factory location as I did. It would have been cheaper to reroute them but I like the clean look. Congrats on a great looking ride.

THANKS FOR ALL THE DETAILED PICS!  I have been really considering this mod.  When I had the Corbin Dual Tour I moved closer to the handlebars and now that I have the Mustang it has moved me back a little.  I have only put 25 miles on the bike with the new saddle so I want to go on a long ride to really see how I feel.

I am going to adjust the handlebars first and see if I can gain an inch that way - my local dealer said it would be close to $1200 to have the 575's installed, the dealer in Seattle said $900.  Not a inexpensive upgrade but I don't think I have found an Inexpensive Upgrade/Mod on this site yet.

When I first joined here I would look at all the mods you guys had done and not understand half of your signatures - WELL I GUESS $7000 LATER I CAN SAY I AM A FULL FLEDGED MEMBER (a special Thanks to AJ :2vrolijk_21:) so really what is another $1200 purchase.

I am getting Metzler 880's and Heat Demons installed next week :huepfenjump3:.  Online now looking at Heat shields and Dragon Wings ;D.  And by the way my dealer is going to credit me what Moco would give them to replace the existing OEM heated grips and install the heat demons.  They also will warrant the Heat Demons with my extended warranty for the next 5 years.  I will post the credit they give me once I know.

Firecheif,Nice Handlebar Modification!
As of this weekend I am considering doing the same.
I have your bike and have 9800 miles, and am still not as comfortable as I want to be with the stock handlebars.
I am a little over 6 ft. tall with a 35 sleeve length.

I was considering the Harley pullbacks. Can you tell me:

What would be the differance between the Wild 1 575's and the Harley Pullbacks?

What source did they use to replace the braided Hyd. Brake line with, and does it match with other braided lines to your satisfaction?

What was your total cost for this nice modification that you did.

Thanks for the detailed pictures.  Did the heated grips work with those bars?

I haven't seen the HD pullbacks so I don't know what the difference would be -- hopefully some-one else can fill us in on this one.
The dealership built new braided line and yes it is a good match
Total cost was $902. That also included having them run a separate hot wire through the clutch grommet hole for my gps unit

Yes they did. The only issue I had was that because the bars are 1&1/4 inch I had to replace my RAM mounts ---- no biggy though  :)

I have the Harley pullbacks 2 ", best thing I can say is to measure the distance from the Bat wing to the end of the hand grip. That will tell you exactly how much difference the bar makes. I believe I am 13 1/2 I will check tonight and re post what I have.

I know I had 15 1/2 on my 06....man they were nice.

On my previous R.K. I put the Heritage Bars on which have a 3 inch pull back from their stock bars.
I did enjoy those much more than what is on the 08 FLHTCUSE3.
I think H.D. only offer a 2 inch pullback as a replacement,

Any other options other than what H.D. offers out there that would offer more than the 2 inch pullback, and hopefully a little higher as well?

As was suggested, I will have the power line from Zumo ran through the Clutch Grommet and inside of new bar.

Anything else while I am doing the change that I should consider?

Firechief2

The timing of your pictures is perfect.  It looks like you gained a at least 2" closer to you with the new bars.
That is what I am looking for.  I am guessing the wires were long enough but the hyd clutch line and brake line need to be replaced???
I am thinking I will do this myself and save some labor charges.
I would greatly appreciate any info on how long the extensions need to be for the lines and wires if you have it.
I don't  want to start and then wait on longer hyd lines of brake lines to be ordered if I can have it all ready to go on.

Thanks again for the pictures....perfect timing.

If your going with the 2" pullbacks from Harley no additional lines or cables need to be purchased. Just the bars.

DICKW,
SO YOU ARE SAYING THAT WHEN YOU ADDED THE 2 INCH PULLBACKS FROM H.D., YOU DID NOT NEED TO CHANGE ANY LINE'S. ALL THAT YOU NEEDED TO MAKE THE CHANGE WAS THE BARS?

DICKW..................I made the local dealer aware of your install on Pullback H.B.
We visitied with the lead Tech. and he agreed that usually there is enought Hyd. Brake LIne to do the app. I am scheduled to have bars installed next week.
Dealer has on order for another customer the "ERGO Backbar from Klockwerks", will see how that looks and compare with the H.D. Pullback's, might have a better wrist position we are thinking? Similiar to the H.D. Heritage Bar.
I will make the site aware of total costs for install.
I beleave it will be quite a bit less without needing to change out the Braided Hyd. Clutch line.
Thanks for the Tip!

You got it, my dealer went ahead and bought all the lines and cables. Then the mechanic called me up and said they didn't need them $$$$$ back in my pocket.

Just so you know I measured my Bars last night, from the seam of the Bat wing were the inner and outer mate up to the beginning of the hand grip I have 13". (that is with the 2" pullbacks)

Did you have your H-D Pullback's installed?  If yes, how do you like them?  And were you able to do a comparison with the Klockwerks "Ergo" bars?  BTW, I assume your CUSE has the throttle by wire like my '08SERK?

08serkrider,
I have not had the handlebar install done yet!
Before I make my decision I am still awaiting the (Klockwerks Ergo Back Bar) Which I think is exactly what I want.
It is 2 Inches Up and 2 Inches Back with wrist twisted slightly out, which would be more parallel with the Fairing on the Ultra.

The Back Baris for (2) applications of riders:
a.) Rider with the need to be closer (pullback)
b.) rider wanting a more laid back position when cruising (that would be me)
I spoke with them today, and they are out being cromed and should be delivered anytime now.
I will let you know!
