Title: CVO WITH WHITEWALLS
Post by: MYCVO on November 16, 2005, 07:07:53 AM
Yo all you SEEG owners,
My brother sent me this pic of my bike, shortly after I got it. I was looking for it for awhile to post here in the site just to see what kind of reaction that it would generate!
Brother Glenn knowing how much I liked my whites on the Heritage thought he'd show me how The CVO would look in whites.
So tell me, what do you think.

I think if it were mine, the first change I would make would be to remove them.  LOL

Post by: ccr on November 16, 2005, 08:24:35 AM
Don't remove them until they are wore out. I loved mine on the road king, but I even replaced the last rear one with a black one. They were a lot of maintenance.

They look good - just way too much work.  You don't mind the work, have fun and enjoy.

Your brother is playing tricks on you ;D

MYCVO,

Knowing this is a sensitive subject and all about a persons personal preference, being as kind and gentle here as possible I might suggest an early christmas present to yourself and get blackwalls.   They may call them Geezer Glides no pun intended there Geezer, but " I " think it detracts from the look of the bike.

I feel as though I need to run and hide now, I'm crushed :'( I guess I'll not be invited to any gatherings now, for the shear embarassment that I'll cause for the rest of the group.

MYCVO....I'm greatly embarrassed by the terrible comments many have made regarding your choice in sidewall color.  I think they're great.  They do, however, lack the total class of adding a bobble head doll to the dash and fork air shocks that will enable you to bounce the front end while stopped at lights while playing "cucaracha" music at it's highest decibel.

I was so impressed that I immediately got out my JC Whitney catalog to see if they had some of those add-on wide whitewalls for bikes, similar to the ones they used to sell for cars.  You remember, the ones that would flap driving down the road??     ::)

spyder,

I believe you are right - either portawalls or something very similar.  As a youngster I would fall down laughing when one of these things drove by with the whitewalls flapping (which most of them eventually did).  Good ol' JC Whitney had lots of stuff like this, which made reading their catalog as much fun as a comic book.  I swear I saw a car with these things on it recently; either that or the guy painted the whitewalls on.   ;D

Red,

Not only do I remember what they are, I'm even old enough to remember when people actually knew how to parallel park and had to prove it to get their first drivers license.  Now, if you add the curb feelers, you must also add the grounding straps hanging off the rear along with the fuzzy dice up front.  It's kind of like a package deal.

[smiley=ROFLOL.gif]  The only thing you guys are missing......you can't have the fuzzy dice, curb feelers, grounding strips, bobble head dolls, eight ball shifter knob without the blended plastic radio knobs made in high school shop to match the paint on your car and of course the twice pipes man! Don't blend it in--put a row around the edge of your windshield---just like they used to do around the rear window of a car. ;D

Hey, does anybody still make those see-through steering wheel knobs with the half-naked women inside?  I haven't seen one in years.  I mean as long as we're talking about "historic" accessories....

This thread has gone way too nostalgic.  Too many younger guys (at least younger than me) won't know what the fringe was really for.  They won't know dingleballs and if it weren't for old movies would never have seen fuzzy dize.  Curb feelers would be a term they'd think would apply to homeless drunks.  Suicide knobs wouldn't have anything to do with steering wheels.  Foot feed and emergency brake are both old hat too.  They'll likely think a flathead is what you get if you stay out too late and will assume that anything before the Evo is something that should only be ridden by Shriners in a parade with the funny hats and, well, dingleballs.

If its rideable and on wheels we will ride it in a parade for sure ... Flathead, panhead, evo, twincam were not picky its all good and a worthy cause, red fezzes and all.

Red,
Your right, the dingleberries would work ,but only if I can get some in blue to match my flame pinstripeing [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif] I wouldnt want to clash having presay gold color, that might be a touch tacky.

Twolane,
The homeless drunks never worked for me as curb feelers, they kept trying to clean my windshield, so I went with the chrome ones [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif] worked good to protect my tire skirts on the 64 coupe deville 2 door hardtop with the wirewheels when my wife was driving [smiley=drink.gif]

DING DING DING!!!!  We have a winner!!  I purposely left out any reference to "suicide" just to see if anyone really knew about those things.  When I was a kid (no, I really was!), the local hardware store (Mom and Pop, not franchise) had those in their automotive section.  My friends and I would sneak back there to sift through them and ogle the discreetly positioned beauties inside.  We asked my best friends' older brother what they were for and he explained their purpose.  'They're suicide knobs.  If you want to commit suicide put one on your steering wheel and us it to crank the wheel over at high speed.  Gives you something good to look at right before you die' he said  (This man is now a Dentist).

We walked around for months wondering about those things.  I mean, if we saw anyone buy one, should we call somebody?? :'(   ;D

Hope this picture passes the censors:

See the problem there would be, you'd not want to scatch them if the eagles were on the end. This thread has great interest to me because I just purchased an 05 Candy red SEEG. One thing that struck me was the bike had 1/2" whitewalls (not these hideous gangster whitewalls in the picture). I immediately asked the owner to throw in the original blackwalls that came with the bike. He stated that this is how it came when he bought it new!
Is this possible? The bike has only 1349 miles. The bike is being shipped from Chicago soon and I was planning to just run with them for awhile or a nice long run in a burn out pit should at least get rid of the rear tire.

Hub...if you're decorating the back of the tour pack, this is what you need to customize the lid....should be very appropriate when you scare the chit out of your passengers running WFO!

Yeah, 'er 'uh, BLM777,

This thread has great interest to me because I just purchased an 05 Candy red SEEG. One thing that struck me was the bike had 1/2" whitewalls (not these hideous gangster whitewalls in the picture). I immediately asked the owner to throw in the original blackwalls that came with the bike. He stated that this is how it came when he bought it new!
Is this possible? The bike has only 1349 miles. The bike is being shipped from Chicago soon and I was planning to just run with them for awhile or a nice long run in a burn out pit should at least get rid of the rear tire.

Hey Tim, not sure that's gonna be too good for that new motor (the burn out pit).....but, hey, it's your bike.  Are you sure it's not a 'knock-off' of a Harley?  The whitewall deal and all.  Is it licensed as a Harley?  Those Chinese can duplicate anything.  You can hardly tell a real Rolex these days w/o splitting the case.  Be sure and get the paperwork.   [smiley=nervous.gif]  spyder

Rakeman,

Someone swapped them out on the bike somewhere along the way.   All the CVO's 04' and 05' shipped standard with solid black tires.   Wear em out and swap em shouldnt take all that long its only like 5500 miles to go.

If I were in a cold state though I would prolly have to swap em out quickly before the winter set in cause I couldnt stand to go into the garage and look at them white stripes, but that is just me :)

NO it's not a knock-off (at least I hope it's not Still in Chicago waiting to ship).
My guess now would be that the owner swapped them before delivery. Anybody out there got a stock Ultra Classic they need tires for?

Here is a link to the e-bay listing where I found the bike. As you can see they are the thinner whitewalls. To me it just doesn't look right.

Well, it's definitely the real McCoy (a SEEG), but why it would have whitewall tires on it is a little strange.  Have you spoken with the original owner or just the dealer you're getting it from?

Curiosity has got me now. The owner is the owner of a Honda dealership in Chicago. I have my contact now asking him how those ugly things got on such a beautiful bike. I don't think much of those leather tassles either.
I'll keep you posted.

Ok, you asked for it. I'm 6"3" 260...............

If you like them that is what counts, as for me I wouldn't put them on mine. I think wide whitewalls look more nostalgic and look better on spoke wheels. But that's just my opinion and as I stated that's your bike, and your money. Ride and enjoy.

It's kinda like wearing kilt (I call them skirts)...you have to be 6' 4" and 255 to not get beat to hell and called a girl.  The bike looks great...put some black on them tires and it won't get beat to hell and called a girl.

I think it does give the bike more of a nostalgic look, like someone did a trick paint job on an older bike.

I was looking at my alloys today next to my 2000 with lace wheels and I must say if I did the wide whites I'd definitely go with a wide lace wheel too.  It's only money.

The guy on the fundraiser ride yesterday has spokes.  They look nice but before the day was over, he was wishing he'd of went with mag wheels.  Had a flat and we had a kit for tubless tire...........but he had spokes.  Can't help a tubed tire on the side of the road. [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

Sounds like a bad install unless he got a nail.  I imagine he would have enjoyed the fix a flat routine on the road.  You don't always have a buddy that can come get you with a pick-up.  I hate chancing a tow truck, they aren't well equipped for bikes most of the time.

Those guys could use a Condor on a flat bed. [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

Lord knows the thousands of miles I've ridden and only had one flat. '90 Springer, lowered, front tire blew at about 75 mph.  With it being lowered my feet were doing the outrigger thing and I was braking before I conciously knew what happened.  Very exciting.

I'm so sorry John, I am way behind on perusing this site.  I saw your pics today and I think it looks great. We have the white walls on the Road King and they look hot as hell, but I gotta say that I am way to lazy to keep them looking great on the SEEG.  Hell, my bike wheel is so dirty you can barely tell it's chrome.  I don't have a way to lift the bike up and I'll be damned if I'm going to lay in the dirt to clean them.  So for me, I would not have the whitewalls on my bike, but I do admire them on others.  Hey, I just went to go look for that pic and now can't find it. Where did you put it?  [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

And the spoked wheels;

The whitewalls with the spokes, will look hot as hell.  I love it. Again, there is no way I'd put that much effort into cleaning my bike.  Spokes = lots of rubbing, but if you don't mind the labor I think the look will be fabulous.

I think the fat white walls look best on the bikes that are trying to look like the older bikes. JMO I'm only 6'2  210  but I don't think the fat white walls look right on the seegs. Maybe if I put on a few more pounds they'll look better. Could someone please explain what the F**** being overweight  has to do with weather or not you like the looks of something.

I'm hoping that anyone who reads this post takes a minute before they jump all over me. I have probably pissed off more people than anyone in recent memory on this site and whether anyone believes me or not, in my heart, I never intended to do that. Still I am an a loudmouth, opinionated S.O.B. at times and I know it, so I try to learn from my mistakes. One of the things I constantly forget in posting on this site is that with the exception of Beags, none of you have ever met me face to face. Beyond that, Big Daddy and I have spoken on the phone and a couple of the administrators have PM me about my transgressions and have gotten a better sense of who and what I'm all about from those. What I'm trying to say here is that when things get personal as they do from time to time, try to put yourself in the other guy's shoes and see if you can understand what he's upset about. We all are nutso about our rides or we wouldn't be reading and posting on this site all the time. Also, one of the things I love most about going to an event like Daytona, Sturgis, Laconia is seeing what everyone else has done to their ride. Maybe I like some of what I see, maybe I don't. More than likely I open my yap and says something to whoever is with me. Through it all and this is my point I remember that the bike I'm liking or disliking belongs to someone just like me that has a lifelong passion for Harley-Davidson motorcycles. So when things get a little personal on the site here, try to envision how you would handle the conversation face to face. Like I said, I need to do better at that myself some days, but I'm trying and I hope all of you do as well

I think whitewalls on the right bike w/ laced wheels looks great. But they have to be on laced wheels. WW's on mag wheels don't do it for me.

Last Friday I went out cruisin'... Did some medicinal drugs & drank green beer. Talked to some heffers...picked up a  hottie. Took her home for the nite & woke up in a fright. Gathered her clothes and called her a cab...Damn! It must of been all the green beer we drank on my tab. Looked in the garage & the bike was alright! Went back to bed holdin' my head. Oh what a shame, but who's to blame? I guess I'll say a guy named Twolane....

WOW I can not believe how long this thread has gone on!  Must be a good topic.  Started by a guy, whitewall fan, looking for input.  Lots of emotions have been brought up, pissed on and threatened.  Bottom line is “Beauty is in the eye or the Keyholder”.  Your bike, do your thing.  What I will say is,  Spiderman’s bike looks SWEET.

I'm with you Spiderman, you know the pipe smoking part. My buddy always said take home two ladies that are a 5 and if you do the math correct then that equalls 10! Any way 5's travel in pairs so it is alot easier to pick up two at one time.
