Recently Marty and Van found out I had never rode the Coast from San Simeon north. So as we do what we do, "I don't know, what do you want to do" thing, Marty TOLD me we were riding to Monterey. OK for me! Now it was his birthday weekend and what he wanted he is going to get. Then with 3 days notice I start to think that we're going to be too close to our family in Nor. Cal. The call was made to JC and Ernie to see who was available for dinner or breakfast? Ernie is the one, NOT ME, that made this one happen. When I left home Sat. morning I was 90% sure Andy and Ernie would come in for breakfast, some riding, hugging, and a wave as we headed home. Surprise, Surprise, Surprise! This is what Ernie did for Marty.
P.S. Many apologies have to made to our Southern California family, as I had to tell some white lies to in order to pull this off. We will make it up to you all. Sorry.

All I did was send PM's and show up! It's all about the people on this site. Everyone who didn't have prior commitments said that they wanted to ride and sing Happy Birthday to Marty! Chris and Ann set out at around 6 AM to make it down to the South Bay by 7:30. Don and Suzie left early and headed to Monterey from 2-3 hours away as well. The NorCal crew doesn't need much of an excuse to get together and ride!
In the tradition of Wrongway and Andy, I sent everyone the directions to the restaurant then while leading the pack, missed the exit and we had to turn around, making us a couple of minutes late! Andy, at least I got us to the correct city! :huepfenjump3:
It's always great to hook up with the "Southern Chapter" of the NorCal Crew!

All I did was send PM's and show up! It's all about the people on this site. Everyone who didn't have prior commitments said that they wanted to ride and sing Happy Birthday to Marty! Chris and Ann set out at around 6 AM to make it down to the South Bay by 7:30. Don and Suzie left early and headed to Monterey from 2-3 hours away as well. The NorCal crew doesn't need much of an excuse to get together and ride!

It was a great day Soozie and I had a blast, this group is awesome. It was only the second time for Soozie splitting and it wasn't near as long as this traffic jam was she did a great job also. Hope Marty has as good a time as we did :huepfenlol2:

For Don and I we left the house at 6am and it was a bit cold. When I got to monterey one layer came off. Then another layer came off when we stopped before we split off with the so cal group. Clothes kept coming off at each stop. It can be a bit nippy near the coast here in Cali.

That's amazing.
I was just thinking Calif, you know, bikini's, convertables, rollerblades.
Full face helmets, heavy jackets and chaps just don't seem like Calif attire in June.

Besides the coastal fog (which usually burns off by noon or so) that Ernie mentioned, it's been ten to fifteen degrees cooler the past couple of weeks in Nor Cal. We're not complaining, I think most of us were enjoying it. But back to normal......supposed to be 100F here today. :nixweiss:

Close to the end of Carmel Valley Road we stopped for goodbys, the chaps and jackets were coming off before the bikes stopped. Funny sight.

First of all, I want to thank Paula, Dave and Donna, which I have many times.
Second, Ernie was great for tuning up the Norcal crew. Don and Soozie woke up early and rode thru rain and wind; Chris and Ann over the bridge thru town and all the other riders that took the time and effort to ride so early to meet up with us.
I enjoyed riding up to Monterey; I’ve been there a couple of times but never for any length of time. Just walking around and having a bite to eat was fun. Traffic was a little crazy but I guess we were not the only ones that enjoy being there.
I thought of coming home via Carmel Road would be fun, but I never thought I would have 10 bikes around me.
A big thanks to you Trapper for the audio part of the ride….
One and all I thank you all, It was a great time

And it is odd for someone like me to see leathers on this time of year given my location but I know first hand now and what a difference.
