Title: The Orange Eagle Has Arrived!
Post by: rugbyprop on March 30, 2004, 10:17:19 AM
I went yesterday and picked up the bike. Didos to all who are in love with the machine. Staying under 80 mph is a chore. Took back roads home just to try and keep the speed down. Have ordered the chopped tour pak, D-D performance exhaust, race tuner, 8" windshield, vents and such. All loose parts are coming and some have arrived and will post pictures as the changes are made.

Had a comical conversation with the wife when she first saw it. She has never liked the Bat Wing fairings on the glides, I however have loved them. She briefly looked at the bikes in literature and said whatever. Yesterday she dropped me off to pick it up and ride it home. She took one look and said, "That's a lot of orange, I have that sick feeling in my stomach, like when you first hold your child after child birth and you think he may be ugly!" We laughed most of the way home about it, by the time we arrived it was starting to grow on her. Just like the kids!

Yesterday the ride home was about 60 miles, 20 of it in the 40's and raining. Better than today, thirty's and chance of snow. However, it's just nice to have the bike home. Did ride to work today. It's everything I thought it would be and more! Hopefully this will work, I have posted all the photos at

The wife had some real sarcastic names for it yesterday, I should have wrote them down. I finally just told her to shut up, which does not happen often. I had to watch how much I said, she had no idea the kind of $ we were talking until the dealer went over the paperwork. Oh well, I survived. She did sit on the passenger seat and said, Holy *$%! this seat sucks. So I suppose I will have to do something there sooner or later. Need to take care of the performance things first though.

My wife said last night, "you know I have changed my mind, the color grew on me, I like it now." You know, the women's right to change her mind thing-strikes again.  [smiley=confused5.gif] You know when it comes to our bikes it has always been "If I have to explain it you won't understand it" Well when it comes to the wife "If I could understand it, I could'nt explain it"

I am down to six days and a wake up call for my "Black and Orange Babe" to arrive.  Have all parts ready to go (Screaming Eagle Exhaust, Air Cleaner, Software load, some chrome and new windshield, etc.) so I hope the dealer on sits on it for a day or two max!  Hopefully on the weekend of the 16th I will be running around on her breaking her in.

Love the pictures of the Orange and Blacks.  Looking Good!!!  [smiley=helmet.gif]

My dealer here in Rockville, MD (about an hour south of the factory) has a build date of April 8th (today) and an arrival date of April 13.

Getty pretty excited, since I have had this bike on order since November when news first came out on them!  [smiley=6.gif]

Getting closer, called my sales guy today and they show the bike as completed and awaiting shipment!

Doubt it will go out today or Tuesday, so I feel like it might show up on Thursday or Friday, so it will be another week before I have it (pay my Harley Tax, etc.), but getting closer!    [smiley=bandana.gif]

I put up a few more photos on picturetrail today. They will show from stock to having the  8" windshield, chopped tour pak that is detachable and the D-D Fat Cat exhaust system that is 2 into 1 and has a "ghost pipe" on the other side to maintain the "dual exhaust" look. Ordered my tourpak on Valentines day and it came in about six weeks, thought a few of you might want to see her fully dressed. I think I am done playing mechanic now and can get to some serious riding. Temps improving this week from the 30's and 40's of the weekend to 70's by Friday [smiley=biggthumpup.gif]

They can be found at http://www.PictureTrail.com/gid4012354

You must be lucky I ordered my Orange & Black tour pak on Feb 2 and it is still not here,  but neither is the bike that had a ship date of the 5th.  [smiley=furious.gif]   Waiting on a truck load to the west coast.  They need to offer a fly & ride from the factroy for new bikes.  [smiley=beerchug.gif]

Figured someone would appreciate the pictures. All I could do for the last 8 months was stare at the one photo I had in the literature until I got ahold of another one of the Orange and Black.  Anyway. I love the D-D Fat Cat as of today. I loaded the closest Harley Map I had in the Race Tuner files last week. Today I recieved from D-D the correct MAP. Ran 35-40 miles this noon and I know we are on the right track now. From 2300 through 4000 RPM it has great pull. Staying under 4000 through breakin. Cost $872 for the 2 into1 pipe and the ghost pipe. As I remember it the 2 into 1 was around 625 and the ghost pipe was 250. Again, long forget about the cost if it turns out the way you want. I am happy with the feel of it. In several weeks I am going to go have the set up Dyno Tuned. Zylstra in Ames just installed some more Dyno equipment and will do it for $200. Sound, I think the sound is a nice middle of the road cruising loudness in the 2000-3000 RPM range. 3000-4000 gets a little loud, conversation from passenger would not be easy to hear while accelerating. Certainly not as loud as my 92 with 1 3/4" drags. I have partial hearing in right ear from that set up, so my thoughts on loudness might be off a little. My wife has not said too loud so it must not be too bad! Anyway, I love the setup so far. I will share the Dyno results in a couple of weeks.  [smiley=beerchug.gif]

Rugbyprop,

I am seriously considering the D&D performance exhaust with a ghost pipe for my bike.  I had a Thunder Headers with a falsie on my 95in. Road King, and was really pleased with the low-end performance.

Would like to the know the results of your dyno with all the performance goodies.

Thanks........... Ben

JCZ I read in one of your posts that the extra docking hardware kit was not needed. Please clarify that statement because, my dealer has 2 sets listed (not 1) of docking hardware on my bill for the detachable tourpak. "I believe you said the kit that is on the bike for the sissy bar works for the tourpak". [smiley=confused5.gif]
Title: Re: The Orange Eagle Has Arrived!

My play wardrobe, yep jeans and black Harley T-Shirts (shorts during the summer with Black Harley T-Shirts, but not when I am riding)  [smiley=laugh.gif]

My dealer is installing the "King" tour pack for me and I believe the seat already comes with the hardware for detachable tour pack kit (the back portion), and only the front part of the kit needs to be installed.   [smiley=oops.gif]
Title: Re: The Orange Eagle Has Arrived!
Post by: rugbyprop on April 15, 2004, 12:29:01 PM
John, It's actually the other way around. the front hardware is there, where the fork of the backrest, or the tour pak "rack" attaches to with the front hooks. The back hardware for the backrest stays intact, and then the rear hardware, where the clamp system attaches to is added to be able to attach the tour pak.  I attached a photo, the chrome tubes with the black hardware is what is added in the rear docking kit. [smiley=biggthumpup.gif]

rugbyprop,
Did you have to remove the painted filler strip to install the rear hardware?  Are they permanently removed or does the hardware clear the filler strips?

Thanks
h2oski
Title: Re: The Orange Eagle Has Arrived!
Post by: rugbyprop on April 15, 2004, 01:17:04 PM
I don't have my bike here or I would take a photo. The filler strips are left in place, but there is a 1/8" thick washer in between the filler strip and the fender. I just popped the washer out, slid the bracket in it's place and all is good to go. The bracket takes the place of the fat washer. I want to think that they were thinking ahead and planned it that way, but in my experience with 8-10 other bikes, I doubt it! [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

I missed this post yesterday.  My dealer charged me for two sets (front and rear) of docking hardware, also.  The wrench is the one that told me I only need the rear........the front docking hardware is already on the bike.  So, I got a refund for the front hardware.

Oh right guys, after three days of adding all of my junk to my bike (and to think I still have some pieces myself to add) I go to pick her up today.  Ordered this bike last week of November, boy it has been a long strange trip.  [smiley=huepfenjump3.gif]

[smiley=thumbsup.gif] [smiley=thumbsup.gif]Congrats on your bike. I have got an orange and black seeg coming in May. I just found this site the other day and it has answered a ton of questions I had. I've ordered the chopped tour pack and I was wondering how you are liking your SEEG and if you have changed the seat? Any advice or suggestions will be appreciated.

cei600 welcome to the site you will find great people and info here.   [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif] As for the seat I cann't speak for anyone but myself  [smiley=biker.gif]  and the wife  [smiley=gorgeous.gif] and I like the seat a little hard but the wife says NO!  So we are headed to Rich's in Seattle this weekend to have a seat custom fit to your butts,  will have gel installed and add some stiched flames in  red& orange to set it off from the rest.  Will take pictures and post when we get back.   [smiley=beerchug.gif]

He has a "scheduled production date" ( that could change either way, when it's closer to that date).  When he gets a firm production or manufacter date, he'll also get a "scheduled ship date" which could also change by a few days, depending on when they have the truck full, headed your direction.

Tell your Dealer that you want to see the build sheet that he down loads from Harley each week.  It is sorted by month with every bike they have ordered and the current status of each.

My orange and black SEEG arrived at the dealership today.  [smiley=thumbsup.gif] I am hoping to pick it up on Saturday.  The bike is at the dealer, but the paperwork has not arrived yet from the factory.  I don't know if I can wait.  I guess I have a few sleepless nights ahead.

Congrats, h20ski!  [smiley=beerchug.gif]

My paperwork was a few days behind the bike also, so I guess that's not unusual.

Please stop riding long enough this weekend to take and post some pics and give us your initial impressions of the bike.  Hopefully, the sun will not reflect off the grin on your face and ruin your pictures!  [smiley=laugh.gif]

I don't think I will be able to get to many miles on the bike this weekend.  Unfortunately who ever controls the weather didn't realize I was supposed to get my bike tomorrow.  It is supposed to be pretty chilly and rain most of the weekend here in southeastern Wisconsin.

I picked the bike up yesterday and all I can say is  [smiley=laugh.gif]WOW! [smiley=laugh.gif].  This bike is incredible.  I loved my SERK and was scared that I wouldn't like this bike as much.  The SEEG has exceeded my expectations.

I now have just over 200 miles on it and can't wait to put some more miles on it.  I would probably have put a few more on, but it was only in the upper 40's here today.

I also installed the Dakota Digital antenna today.  It works great around town, but when I get out in the counrty the stations are pretty scratchy.  I guess that is why we have a CD player.

The dealer notice one problem with the bike before I picked it up.  The right side saddle bag lid has a paint chip.  It is on the side near the detachable passenger back rest.  The chip lines up perfectly with the head of a screw that sticks out a little far.  Since they found it during the intial inspection it will be covered under warranty.
