Will this thing be okay here?
Anyone had any trouble with heat or any other issues having it located here?

That's not an uncommon location. Should hold ok so long as it's secured such that it can't hang down too much.

Originally put mine there but when I plugged in to it it came in contact with the cylinder fins and oh well you know what happend then.  Hard to get that melted chit off the fins.

A better option is not messing the loose dangling pigtails at all.  Go to Powerlet and get a hard mounted bracket for a power plug.

That's their part number PKT-034.  The little pigtail that comes with it reaches the battery fine when mounted in that location.

These use the nearly ubiquitous BMW type power socket.  Powerlet had adapting cable to go from the BMW socket to SAE or Coax plugs for heated clothing or battery tenders and just about everything else (mine with in iPhone connector arrived today).
