Title: Lastdegree's Spiced Rum Mods
Post by: lastdegree on October 16, 2010, 01:13:15 PM
My spiced rum has finally gone to the dealer for my final 2010 mods.   :bananarock:

I plan to update over the next week or so WITH PICS - promise.   Here's the list of mods expected this time around:

- Headwinds spotlights and turn signals (Vampire) prompted by Slammr

- Headwinds Bezel (Vampire) and hush about the cost please and thanks Slammr

- Dakota Digital antenna

- Spiced Rum Inner Fairing (really unsure at this point, but feel committed to the group and it's paid for)

- Paul Yaffe 8" (one of two sets) Monkey Bagger Bars

- Arlen Ness Mirrors (wanted PA but have issues with the chrome and US to UK is a long way for returns)

- Braided hydraulic lines (why not std?)

- 19" Black / chrome front wheel and tyre

- Chrome rotors (why not std?)

- Rumble collection saddlebag latch covers

- Final front end chrome components

To recap here's what's been done so far:

- 8" Freedom shield - great.  Windsplitter - good, but too small for me

- J&M amp and speakers (Thanks Maladjusted) it rocks

- Vance and Hines HI-Output mufflers

- Vance and Hines Power Duals (Thanks Wheelsnkeels)

- Corbin classic solo seat with passenger, back rest, black flame stitch (thanks JCZ)

- Domestic smoke LED turn signals (thanks HDNIK)

- Kury number plate surround (thanks everyone)

- Badland LED smoke rear tail stop lamp (thanks HDNIK)

- Badland module (thanks HDNIK)

- Drag Specialities bag latch inserts

As you may imagine, what started as a close to $40k bike in the UK has now cost a little more.  I'd like to personally thank and blame the following for mods I never knew I wanted nor needed:

- HDNIK
- JCZ
- Wheelsnkeels
- Slammr
- JCZ and oh, JCZ

That's it for now.  Be patient.  I'm somewhat worried that the inner fairing may be a step too far, but hey, it can always be returned back to black.

Lastly  :worthless:

Cheers

I'm not entirely sure, but the stock cables work without any pulling so possibly the same size just forward's rather than upwards.   Looking forward to seeing the bars on - quality is A1 and should if lucky look the bomb.

Is service at the dealerships over there typically slow?  When was your appointment for?

You know those of us that have did ours up are all anxious to see the pics of yours just because nobody's really did up a spiced rum to that level.

Work has started and should have some pics to share soon.

There's two dealers within a 50 mile radius and my "trusted" is busy and have other things on.  Also, you may or may not believe this, but most baggers in the UK are stock or have a few mods so this level of modding has necessitated a higher level operative to undertake works - Whatever.

Sitting waiting.  My other half has me busy with chores so it's not like I'd be able to get out and about.

Cheers

I've been waiting for someone to "bite the bullet" and do some 8" Yaffe bars so I wouldn't have to be the guinea pig. Cant wait to see them and your input on how the bike handles with the different hand location.

Awesome Mod list...Thanks

Nine days at the dealer.  No email.  No call.  No nothing.  Maybe they've lost my contact details?   :nixweiss:

Plus the weather's awesome here at the moment and I could be out and about.  At this rate my other's going to ask me to detail the fleet.

They can make plenty of $'s from P & A's for the stock models.  The SE models should be a show-case for HD with all these "little" items included.  Considering the price they get for these babies. . . . .    :drink:

Funny message from the head of service

Hi Adam,

Steve was ready to chuck in the towel, he sends his greetings. LOL

Job has come to a stand still as the progressive paper work shows filling the forks with fork oil with a gravy jug, we are working out whether we should use chicken or onion gravy, and if it should be bisto or tesco own?
would do you reckon?

Chris.

BTW Bisto is a powder based gravy, tesco is like safeway - funny bunch.  Hoping they went with Chicken.

Glad to see your making progress  :2vrolijk_21:

A word to the technician the Monotubes get 5 oz of 10W oil and no more or they can hydrolock  :'(

the stock Harley units use 9 Oz of 20w and I've heard of them overfilling the gravy  :nixweiss: Just a word of caution.

The weather here is not great.   However, as much as I'm not going to ride the bike, I hate, just hate dumb service.

I'm a self confessed impatient man.  I cannot for life of me wait when there's an alternative.  The dealer emails to say that they ordered some braided cables and one of them looks to arrive in Europe on the 17th of Nov?  Why would anyone order braided cable parts from the US when there's more bike shops capable of making hydraulic lines within 30 miles of the dealer??

It would appear that my bike will be back sometime this year?  At this rate, I may move the captain to make way for a nice 911 / 930 turbo...mmmm :2vrolijk_21:

Title: Re: Lastdegree's Spiced Rum Mods
Post by: Wheelsnkeels on November 05, 2010, 06:35:29 AM
I hear you Adam this is the kind of thing that soured me on Harley's dealers. I either do it myself (preferred method) or use an Independent shop.
The Independents seem to have a better grasp of both customer service and what it takes to be in business.

Don't give up my friend in the end you'll get what you want and it'll be splendid!  :2vrolijk_21:

Winter has arrived here and looking at the bike as I pull in the garage is killing me each day. We are planning to haul it to Tennessee around the 12th -14th and ride the Dragon and the Cherahola Skyway. During the ugly season we try to go south each month and ride at least a weekend here and there to cure the itch.

Wheels - don't get me started.  Sunnier climes sound rather nice and looks as though that ride is cool as.   I'm off to Madrid this weekend for a week of sun, but no bike

Amazingly, I'd waited to gather all the parts and then I had a three to four weeks for my booking, then they start late, order parts from 4000 miles away and the inform me that it's at least  a further 2-3 weeks before the bike comes back AND I bet money they don't even detail the bike.  How can a business survive?  Who knows what labour cost, no email, calls or timely updates.

Any good indy want to start-up near here - guarantee there's business to be had and kept

I'm signing off until the next pics.

Cheers everyone

Went to the dealer yesterday and it's nearly complete!   Great bunch of guys have a done a stellar job.  Should be back within the week and hold on to your wallets peeps - it's just pornographic.  The spiced rum inner is a must IMO - the bars are rocking and that's before you see the Headwinds kit up front.

Interesting, and yes I know that without pics this is time wasting, BUT the new 19" front wheel looks killer with the slight drop from the monotubes and makes it look as HD should with the 2011 IMO.

Wheels - did you notice the bike drop slightly at the front when you did your mono's?

No I cannot say I did there are different spring sets for height available. Is it possible you received a set with the lowering springs? Have the dealer give you the part number installed. The only difference between standard and lowered height is the spring kits in the kit.

I am considering changing them to lower mine out front some to accommodate the 140/70 21.

Thanks guys.  The things I worried over most turned out the best.  The headwinds seemed over priced out of the box - but really do make the front end.  The bezel is a work of art.  The painted inner is now a no brainer for me anyway.

Keep modding

The lamps really work on the SESG.  However, the bezel is by far my best mod - makes the front end look muscular.  Always thought the batwing was a great design, just a little too weedy like there was something missing.  Now found IMO  :2vrolijk_21:

A real "custom" ride now.

Congrats on an awesome job.  :2vrolijk_21:

I have always loved the look of a colour matched inner fairing that really sets your bike apart from the crowd of other SESG's.

You're definitely on a roll now!

Weather's turned cold and salt is officially the new condiment of choice for all asphalt.   Bike is safely tucked away for the winter.

Not sure what's next.  Chopped tour pak is certain.   Maybe new footboard and associated kit, chrome starter? or what?  Anyone have any suggestions?

Cheers

I looked at these and JCZ, yes the head of mods said probably NOT with the spiced rum.  Not so sure now.

JCZ - any new thoughts on the matter?

While they do not offer rum lighting they are s similar shade of Red.
They also offer additional features not the least of wich is the Head temp readout.  :2vrolijk_21:
The stock guages are very nice so it is not a necessity?  (but then neither is a $499.0 Bezel or temporary Lowers?  ;))
I am sure "you" would have no need of the 0 to 60 timer?  :nixweiss:

That painted inner fairing is the icing on the cake.  Yes, I think the red DD gauges would top it off very nice.....especially since your stereo is already lit up in red.  Then some red LEDs up under your tank shinning down and behind your horn and your air cleaner shinning back on the motor.......   http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=32927.msg681464#msg681464

Oh, and while you're at it..........you better get those calipers chrome plated....  http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=40248.msg687034#msg687034

Let me know when you got that done........I got some more ideas for you. :huepfenlol2:

ABSOLUTELY OUTSTANDING!!!

Inner fairing is MINT!!! Great job Adam! Well thought through, nice cohesive look. You did it right! Man oh man it took long enough though eh?

I'm you took the risk on the rear plate... that UK billboard would wreck the thing IMHO.

Lastdegree.....you've definately taken the lead in mods on the Spiced Rum.   I think everybody would agree.  There has to be a first for every model and in every color and you've certainly taken the spiced rum to the top. :2vrolijk_21:

You've done yours different than mine (Headwinds) and so I have to admire it as well.  We're watching this thread! :2vrolijk_21:

It's been unseasonably cold here.......low of 30 and highs in the mid 40s.  But we've still been getting a little riding in.  I think of you guys and all of a sudden it's not so cold.

I don't know about living the dream.......I'm wondering if I'm going to be joining the ranks of the unemployed again, in the next few months. :nixweiss:

As tough as it's been in the UK and will probably be for a further 12 months at least, there's not as many redundancy stories as you guy's have had in the US.

Sitting here typing wishes of replacement parts for what are already good parts brings home a reality of how lucky we are.  There's many who wish for a bike let alone to mod one.

JCZ, Let's hope not.    Wheels, Wish you well finding a new role.

Wish I lived in Florida, Arizona or California? Even Belize or Costa Rica might be allright as well?

Alas poor Yorick

Timing not withstanding mine is my own fault I sold my business in 2006 looking to start a new motorsports venture. Just as it was about to get started the Obama hit the fan  :nixweiss:

My 5 year non compete is coming to a close and I'll start up where I left off hopefully. In the mean time I've been wholesaling watercraft and motorcycles for cash but thats been pretty thin the last 2 years. All in all I'm more fortunate than many so stiff upper lip and all that  :2vrolijk_21:

JCZ wish you well in that regard! Certainly hope the economy is actually turning around?

I love blackadder. Reminds me of when I was younger when my dad and I used to watch it Thursday evenings when the old lady went out on the town with her pals.

Nice to hear it's not all bad.  Just gotta love non-compete's.  God bless America for that contract.  Still love a bit of cash dealing.  Really miss the interaction of selling something with an engine.

I've sort of left the CVO in the back of my mind for the moment.  6 inches of snow here is like 8 feet anywhere else.

Trying to talk myself into an Audi R8 which my good lady is warming to.

Cheers,

Now your talking I really have been considering the Audi and they are a little less conspicuous to the jealousy crowd. (Employees)
The great unwashed and uninformed masses are less aware of them.

Always get the  :2vrolijk_21: from Car & Driver

Still hard to beat the 4matic S Class in the winter but that may be one to do it?

Looks like it's a no go.  A bit too tight for me at 6'5" and before you say it there's more than 5" elsewhere.

Main issue aside, there's just no space for nothing.  Not my best choice of everyday car.  Will have to re-think.

Still love my merc's.   Fancied one of the C63 until I sat inside.  Great engine - pants interior especially for the money.

next ride probably the plain old Mercedes S550 4matic  :2vrolijk_21:

(although there was a nice CLS 600 AMG in the local trader today reasonably priced just not a great snow machine)
One advantage to being 5'9" is they all "Fit"

Here you go.  Out of the blue, well not really as I've been looking for one for 10 yrs I found a 1996 Porsche Turbo 993 version.  Must have felt right 'cause I pulled the trigger after many hours asking, talking to the dealer - a porsche OPC dealer at that.  Imagine a 1996 car with 60k fully warranted and approved by porsche and 4wd!

I've hijacked my own thread for which I apologies.  I do however, have news to share tomorrow in that my corbin passenger back rest arrived to replace the std CVO item and looks mighty cool and useful too

Cheers

Having just spent again on another toy the decision has been made to re-locate the bike to our home in Spain.  This way I get to use the porker when it's dry and the bike will get more ride time all year round.

I may be hanging-up my modding plans for while - although sad for some, my wallet is smiling and it's been fun, lots of fun.
