Anyone try or use the HD photo-chromatic lenses? Theses are the goggles or riding glasses that changed from light to dark depending on lighting conditions. I am thinking about getting a pair. Seems alot easier then stopping to change glasses to clears when the sun goes down. Any input?

You have a part number? Are they available with/for prescription lenses?

I prefer the Panoptx Glasses, I have several pair but now mainly just use the day and night lenses
As they automatically adjust to varying light conditions, changing to almost a clear for night and a darker for day

I bought the panoptx Raptor CV, i needed a prescription so I opted for the new Polarized transition lens. It is very good. A small amount of distortion as the lens is so curved, but I like them alot for riding.

I tried some on at the dealer here last summer. After wearing Oakleys for years now, I guess I am spoiled. These glasses did not get dark enough for me and I was still squinting after being out in the sun with them for a good 15 minutes. I think any type of self-lightening/darkening lens is going to be a compromise versus a purpose-made, full-time sunglass lens.

I've got a set of Oakleys w/ the transition lens ground to my prescription - no problem in bright sunlight & I don't have to switch to reading glasses anymore to read the menu @ the choke & puke!

I have the Panoptx too, very nice glasses. They offer several styles and many options for lenses, I got the day/night ones and have been very happy with them. You can order them with prescription lenses as well.

My wife and I won't wear anything but Panoptix. Hands down the best eye protection we've ever used. I call 'em full face helmet for the eyes. I use the convertibles so I can remove the orbital seal and use them as sunglasses and back to riding eyewear in a matter of 10 seconds. Highly recommended!! [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

BLM, so the Panoptx are the ones you turned HUBBARD onto and he has been raving about ever since??? If I could get some good prescription transition lenses, I'd prolly dump the contacts for riding. I hate it when they get dried out at the end of a day.

They don't get near dark enough. I have gone back to a pair of Maui Jims that are much better.

Instead of spending the bucks for a prescription lense, you may want to try one of the Panoptx styles that use the removeable eyecup.

I am sure all of you can tell which pair are the ones that change during the different times of the day
Gosh I didn't realize both pairs were as dirty as they appear.

If I were you I would stop by a Harley Dealer and try on several pairs and if the HD dealers isn't willing to match the price on the internet say thanks to Harley salesperson and go home and order the ones you liked best.
Me I got a mellon for a face, so I need the large frame with ear pieces that expand

You can check out Panoptix, WileyX, Bolle, Vuarnet, prices and styles at SportRx, they're in San Diego area and do most of the prescription work for Panoptix and Wiley and I've always had good luck with them. For Rx, you just need a current prescription (w/P.D), pupil distance determines what frames work for your size. :) http://www.sportrx.com Even some colors for those that are really over the top OCD [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif] [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif] I got the "transitions" last year, and haven't had a real problem with them not darkening enough while riding, but it depends upon your sensitivity. I know they don't work well in the ole SUV, the tinted windows throw them off.

Looked in the SportRX catalog and they offer lined, or unlined, bifocals as well as tints polycarbonate, polarized, etc. If it doesn't come up on the website, I can scan in the major stuff and send it to you. I believe you can go to their website and request a complete catalog with the order form, and pricing info.

I also use panoptx with day/night lens. I got the convertibles since eye pieces (foam insert) pop out. Came in real handy at sturgis last year when went to Colorado mountains, and foam got wet and started to fog up. Just pop em out and all clear!!!

I'm going to the Sunglass Hut and try them on to see if I like them and if they fit, and I will probably order them from Sierra... much cheaper. [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif] [smiley=huepfenjump3.gif] Terry (TcnBham) thinks they'll be great for me. I wear contacts.

Panoptyx does limit the parameters they'll put in their frames for your prescription. I've got a patient out there wearing a pair of WileyX's (very similar to Panoptyx- should be able to do the same with the Pan's) with 5 diopters (units) of astigmatism (Pan & Wil only will do 2 units). It's been almost a year, and we haven't had any problems so far. If yo're thinking of buying any of these, have a chat with your local optometrist. They may be able to cover a wider range of prescriptions, sometimes at less money and a faster turn around.

My wife and I each recently bought a pair of Panoptyx glasses. Hers are the ones that change with the light. I bought the darkest pair that don't change.
Sometimes she looks like a flying squirrel with those things on. In my opinion they are just about like the latest prescription glasses that are light sensitive. They are marginal.
My experience- get some for sunlight, others for night. Also, I don't recommend driving most places at night. Between animals and reduced vision, you're multiplying your chances of getting to try out your full coverage insurance. Therefore, buy some cheap $10 clear glasses in case you need them, but get something that's dark enough for the day. That's my 2 cents. 8-) Steve

I have been using Oakley sunglasses for years. They are still my favorite for off motorcycle use or short trips. On a recent long trip, however, my eyes were really drying out and I bought a pair of Panoptx. I can't remember the model but they are dark ones with the removable eye cup. I really like them. My eyes are much more comfortable with these things. I highly recommend them. I believe they come in two or three different sizes to fit your face shape and you can get them with or without the removable eye cups. Personally I'd recommend the latter because of the way they keep the air out. (They are vented, but wind doesn't get blown in your eyes). 8-) -Steve

Thanks to BLM I finally found some sunglasses that suit my fancy! [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif] While I was waiting on my Panoptx Sorocco CV day/night photochromic glasses to come in off back order http://www.panoptx.com/html/va_pages/m_662917_sirocco.htm I found on ebay a pair of Panoptx (speed airdams) Zip in silver frames with polarized 31 lenses for $25 new! :o http://www.panoptx.com/html/va_pages/m_622131_zip.htm Thought what da heck, why not. [smiley=nixweiss.gif] Man, best $25 spent in a long time. I'm glad I got them because the day/night Sorocco don't get as dark as the zips. When I'm riding against the Sun or on a bright sunny day, the Zips get the work out. Any other time I wear the day/night Sorocco's. I have a S/M face thats why I went with these models. More than welcome JR. Panoptx are currently finding their way to our military for use in the Middle East as well as to special op's units around the globe.
