Title: I pitched the stock air cleaner
Post by: 2smoke on May 02, 2011, 09:00:33 PM
In the past I have always run Big Sucker stage 2 intakes with good success.  The bikes would always dyno 2-3 HP over other popular intakes like the Heavy Breather or other large open element intakes.  The Arlen Ness backing plate totally kicks butt.  So I put a Stage 2 on my ConV.  The bike goes in for a air/fuel optimization and Dyno pull tomorrow.  I'll post the results.  Check out the pix.  The stocker is lame compared to the Big Sucker.

Here is the stock air cleaner.  Pretty restrictive.

Has anyone installed the heavy duty air cleaner that is a cone looking filter that is 90 degrees facing forward?  Do we have to put the engine back on a "tuner" and Dyno session following an air filter change out like this one?

thanks, ben

You are referring to the "heavy breather".  Yes, you should have the fuel map retuned.  You could run into a dangerous lean condition.
