Title: HJC Helmet
Post by: DakotaZeb on June 06, 2006, 10:08:16 PM
Anyone have a HJC AC-3 open face helmet.  It appears this is the same exact helmet as the Harley Ultra Jet.  Except Harley wants $175 and I can buy the HJC on the web for $116.95 including shipping.  I am thinking about buying a pair for the wife and myself.  Any reviews on this helmet would be appreciated.  Thanks.

Not sure if they are the same but bought 2 of those a few months ago on ebay for a good price.  Check that out, it was from a HD dealer who was blowing out some stock.

Hi DakotaZeb,
I have used the shorty HJC helmet for 9 years and am very pleased with it. I have just ordered from a local Cyclegear dealer the new HJC AC-2M shorty helmet which has pockets in the leather side curtain for our speakers.
I have not owned the AC-3 but was considering it too. You may want to send a message to BaronStump since he is stationed near the HJC plant and has taken a tour of the plant and owns several HJC helmets.
You are right in that HJC makes several of the Harley helmets.(As well as Shoei and KBC)

From what Chicago HD said on the phone, the Ultra Jet comes with both the face shield and the visor, so with the 20% discount it's a pretty good deal for something with HD written on it.

I'm thinking about ordering two, letting those be my headset helmets for traveling.
Anyone who has one of these helmets tried the shield?  Is it a pretty good seal? The GF wears contacts, so can't have wind in her eyes, and unless you spend another 200 bucks on sunglasses...you get the picture.

I use these with headsets with the wife on board.  I have the visors but never put them on.  Keep the visors in the right side saddle bag packed with all the other stuff that goes out on every trip for just in case of rain.  Mine did not come with the visors BTW.  I do like the visors and the helmet is pretty comfortable.

Dakota....if you go to the website and try to find helmets, it will just take you to the regular HD site for motorclothes.  You have to call them...they've got to order them, so it will be a week to ten days...that's what the lady told me on the phone today.  I'll probably order tomorrow...none here in town have anything but medium for $175...no discount...won't even talk about it if I buy two and another headset.  So, Chicago will get my money instead of B'ham... :o

Got the HD Ultra Jet helmets last weekend....great helmets!!!  They come with both the visor and the face shield, and out of Chicago, were 140 each.  Very comfortable, fit like a glove, and look good too.  Of course, I immediately dropped mine on the driveway and scratched it....guess I was just getting it over with.  Will make great road helmets.

I bought two new HJC AC-3 helmets from an eBay seller.  $134 included shipping, visor and shield.  Just received them and they appear to be very nice helmets.  Plan to install the Harley headsets in them.  I went with the HJC rather than the ones from Harley as I wanted something other than Black.  I ordered the Wineberry color.  Looks good with my Haze/Black SEUC.  The color matches the darker red stripes on my bike.  By the way, the HJC logo sticker on the front is easy to remove.  Just peels off, easier if you use a hair dryer to warm it up first.
