Title: Skunk lowers just installed... WOW!
Post by: HDCrazy on November 20, 2011, 12:25:59 PM
What a difference in looks and performance. The bike feels more planted at high-speeds and the cockpit is much calmer. Went with the "HD Shorty" filter.
Couple of pics.

More planted? I can tell no difference in mine with them on or off other than my pants legs flap less and I sweat more in summer till I remove them.

Took all the pics and oriented them correctly to have something of a clue what was being looked at.  Bike looked funny trying to go ballistic.

Thanks for the pic correct....posted on the fly. Yes thats the compact SE Air-Filter, it has about 1/4" clearance from the lower.

HD: Looks like you kept the air breather the same...dealership is suggesting shorter version if lowers are added....any thoughts on that.

thanks, J

jh, I replaced the standard filter with the compact HD  "Shorty" air filter. The standard filter will not work at all.

I like the look  :2vrolijk_21:
Can you comment on how close the shorty filter is to the door and whether the pocket is still practical to use?

pdargen, The HD "Compact" filter is about 1/4" from the lower. The glove box really becomes useless at this point. If I want to put speakers or use the glove box for storage, I will go the route of Wachuko's bike.

Iam new to this board just to help a friend install lowers WITH speakers - Great info here...  Can someone give me the link(S) for Wachuko's info on HOW to deal with airclearner AND speakers in Lowers   - Friends bike is the 2012 Maple RG..

+1 - After seeing a few photos from folks here (foyboy) and the feedback... going with a shorter filter would have been a waste of $.  First, you loose the cool black and polished cover. And second, the glove box is useless as you can't open the thing to get out squat, plus, if you ever install speakers, the short filter will not work anyway.

My suggestion is to spend the money on a new setup.  Many to select from.  From the stock unit found on the Street Glide CVO to the aftermarket.

This is what I went with... but thinking about changing the face for the new Clarity line... along with their Clarity derby cover.

Being that close to the glove box, I'd think it's blocking some flow to the air cleaner anyway.  Have you considered the ventilator air cleaner that's on the 09 SERG and the SESGs?  Definately more filter surface and not being so close to anything, I'd think a little better air flow. :nixweiss:

Nice mod! Agree with the others, change out the air filter for something more functional and less abstructive.

Mod on!

Not sure why you posted all of the pics sideways, on the first page. :nixweiss:     I just edited the first post to rotate the picture upright.

I'll let you edit the others. :nixweiss:
