Title: Ride a volcano...
Post by: Chuck Pryor on February 06, 2013, 06:58:49 PM
Rented and Ultra and rode to the top of Haleakala in Maui this weekend... put a little video together if you're interested in riding along. Hoping this link will work, too large to attach file.

No, was only there for two days and pretty much in and out. Took the Road To Hana on Saturday and Mt Haleakala Sunday and back Monday. State #1 in my quest to ride all 50 this year (for my 50th birthday)  :bananarock:

Nice job on the video Chuck.

Too bad it was of a HD ride up a VOLCANO in MAUI and not of some place we all wish we could be in the middle of winter like some icy field in Nebraska.

I know you didn't directly say you did, but just assuming, I'm glad you had a good time!

Mike, it's a Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX30V   That thing take GREAT video (and pix too)  Plus it has WiFi built into it and I figure more flexability than a Go-Pro for the same price ($290 or so)  These shots are all "hand held" which is why it's less than stellar camera work. :)

It does get pretty chilly at 10,023 feet... even in Maui   Think I had about a 40 degree temp drop by the time I hot the top.   :'(

Besides, this is not NEARLY as beautiful as a frozen Nebraska Corn Field...

Went up way before sunrise in a Mustang rag top.  26* on top.  Watched the sun break through the clouds.  Was nice to get back down to the beach.

So, I REALLY enjoyed your video.  Wish I'd done it on two wheels and I don't mean the ever popular bicycle ride down.  As I remember you could rent a bicycle up there.

Great job!

Yea, I saw a LOT of bicycles coming down as I was going up... think I had about a 40 degree drop in temp as I peaked. Notice the head sock on?  :2vrolijk_21:

Think I already knew the answer to that question but had to ask.

Hey, we miss your ride reports......where you been lately (besides the top of a volcano)?

Glad you had a good time Chuck... sorry I wasnt able to see you on your visit.

I'm glad Haleakala is a dormant volcano and not active like the Big Island of Hawai'i. The thought of not knowing if your house is going to be there when you get home from work is not a good thought.

At any rate: The 20th Annual Hawaii State HOG Rally returns to Maui again this year, for more fun and great rides.

Well, they say a picture is worth a thousand words soooooooo...  here's a look at the last year in one photo. :)

I double clicked the link at the bottom and it enlarged full page.  I actually recognize many of those places and I think I've been to a few of those locations with you, before.  :2vrolijk_21:

I hope you took that picture and had it framed.  You'll have to tell us how you did it?

By the way.....going in March to take some photography classes from Gail DeMarco.  She's the photographer that shot all the photos in that hardback Harley book that I'm in, Rebels With a Cause.  Real excited about taking classes from her....her portrait skills are  about as good as they get!  ;D   She's moved from the bay area and opened a studio here in Sacramento and another in Folsom.

Fantastic Video! The first time up that Vocano for me was in August 1976! Driving a Rented Ford Maverick! On our Honeymoon...Killed the transmission on the way..but still had a blast..in fact if I recall the "fine print" on the rental agreement Excluded the Volcano and the drive to Hana!

Ride safe..Keep enjoying..

Peace

Stan
