Title: Long ride cleaning stuff....
Post by: dahsen on November 18, 2013, 11:24:55 PM
Everytime I go for a 2 or 3 week ride, I try something different to keep the bike clean during the ride...  3 or 4 products in small convenient bottles -- a one does it all product --  only soap and my absorber --  ultra specialized wipes (paint, chrome, wheels, bugs,...)...

Always something missing and even if I like my bike clean, I hate carrying useless products...

So, what do you put into your bags ?

Pledge lemon wipes and lots of 'em and a few microfiber cloths. The wipes work great to get bugs off paint and windshields (not so much for bugs baked on pipes). It's the lemon I think. They work great shining up painted surfaces and chrome. Best all around handy portable cleaner I've found.

purple slice. works on everything including your glasses (they make a lens cleaner that when I called the company they told it is the same product in different packaging). I am as OCD as it gets with my bike and I have used this exclusively between waxes (i use Pinnacle Souveran) for almost a year. I have tried just about everything on the market before this an IMHO this is the best. The fact that I now only have to carry 1 product with me is definitely a plus.

I use old rags and shampoo from the hotels / motels that we stay in, and whatever Greg K has in his garage ;D ;D ;D

That must be the new version. I know Marty always has those wipes. Yellow jackets are meat eaters so they like to chew on the dead bugs on your bike. easy pickens. ;D

Small bottle of bug remover, detail spray, & micro fiber cloths (separate ones for metal and paint).  If bike is real dirty or bugs are baked on, I'll use a hotel hand towel soaked in hot water to loosen up the crud before rubbing with the microfiber.

Really, in the Pacific North West (on the coast) the bike was soaked with fog/dew every morning, "The Ball & Chain" had to wipe the seat, tank, and fairing off anyway, so she pretty much detailed the bike 'most every day.
Bless her little heart...

I made my own quick detailer out of my wash solution called Optimum No-Rinse. It's a No-Rinse wash, but I put it in a spray bottle in a higher concentrate for a great quick detailer.  I carry that and microfibers. I also have been trying Bugslide on all the recommendations here.  The Bugslide is awesome. Works the same way as my quick detailer, so either way I'm good.

Well, almost. The ONR is a good bit cheaper. Since I don't have either right now, which one would you pick w/price factor included? Thanks
