Title: Fork lock problem need help or advise please!
Post by: YELLOWBIRD on August 11, 2014, 08:24:39 AM
Members,

Need a little help for a friend.

Good friend just picked up a pre owned 2012 CVO Ultra a week for Sturgis. The bike preformed flawless.

Upon coming back, he took a ride, came home and now he can't get the fork lock to disengage. It's in the lock position but won't pop up allowing the lock to turn to any position.

I HAVE NOT seen the bike since, but he did say the barrel key will move from lock to unlock but that's it!

I'm not sure if I saw a tread on the fork lock, and/or someone having problems in the past regarding this on this site or on the bigger HD forum.

He will be calling the dealer this morning but he can't load it into a trailer with it all jacked up.

Any advise would be helpful!

TIA,

YB

This happened to me once and I just needed to slightly move or apply pressure in one direction or the other while turning the key to fix it.   I found that using the fork lock if the bars aren't positioned perfectly can cause this.

I had a fork lock jam on me once. There is a catch underneath you can press to take the whole thing off.

I just put the key in mine once when the remote wouldn't unlock it and the whole thing popped off in my hand. Fortunately it went back in and I was able to ride home. I haven't locked the forks since but several have reported, as mentioned here, that wiggling the forks a little bit will relieve the pressure on the locking mechanism enough to allow it to unlock.

Thanks for all you replies and help!

The dealer is sending a trailer to come get his ride!

Thanks.

Ain't that the truth! Can you say bring a car jack?

I haven't talked with my buddy yet to see how everything turned out.

Just pull bars to the left to unlock.  If no unlock it's an easy adjustments if you have the special tool.
