syn oil
« on: November 10, 2003, 08:45:16 PM »

i have done some research on synthetic oil.  When i get 2000 miles on the bike it is having Amsoil put in it.  Apparantly, Amsoil is better than Mobil1 and both are much better than the rest.  You all can see comparsions on the 'net.  On a side note, I got my Rineharts shipped the other day...immediatelty took out the baffle and made a change than adds 'ponies...have efi race tuner kit..need air cleaner kit.  Looking at the Big Sucker and a S.E. kit.  it's gonna be a long winter chompin' at the bit..... c-ya pete//

Jim I'm not postive but I believe that your bike came with the petroleum oil.  As I understand it, the Screamin Eagle Electra Glide is the first bike that came from the factory with the Syn 3.

However, if you check around I think you'll find that just about everybody is switching to synthetic.  Your bike will run cooler and last longer.  It's more expensive, but (in this case) you get what you pay for.

Tried syn 3 in my road king was ok in the motor but the tranny was another story.  Tranny made weird noise
and was hard to find neutral. [smiley=confused5.gif] Dealer was no help. Switched to red line shock proof niose went away bike shifts great.  Several people in my chapter have had same problem, will probably dump the syn 3 in new bike and go with red line.  I Have always been told not to break in a new motor with synthetic oil, that rings don't seat well. I have been running AMS oil since 1999 in my old '98 road king, and now running it in the '03 SEFLHRi2

I ran hard fast and heavy in the 98 RK for over 55,000 miles, pulling a trailer, broad gear and my fat ass, with the bike, about 1,500 pounds and it alot of it at 105 MPH.

I'm sold on AMS oil peroid. Have never had a failure on any internal part.

I use the 20-40 for the engine, 75-90 for the primary, and 75-140 for the trans. All AMSOil products.

Dido on the Amsoil. I have run it in a 92 FLSTF since 93 or 94. Ran it in watercraft, Company vehicles. On the Co. vehicles side, when a vehicle is still under warranty GM won't let you go more than 5000 intervals. After warranty is over we go oil filter change every 12500 miles. Go oil change and transmission every 25000 or one year. Save us several thousand a year in changes and just think of the used oil we are not pushing into the enviroment somewhere. Works for me! I purchase as a dealer direct from Amsoil, mainly because of the volume we also consume on company vehicles and selling to other co. employees. I have seen it on the shelves at several midwest "farm fleet" stores like Mills.
