Just noticed the paint is peeling off the engine!!!!

First sign of good weather in the Uk, took off the cover and shock! the grey paint is peeling off!!
anyone else had this and have you left it?

I haven't seen this before. I avoid riding in the winter because of the corrosive affects of salt. Do you ride in the winter?

But would that make your paint come off? That looks like the work of paint thinner or some other chemical.
