hard ride
« on: June 25, 2015, 12:43:48 PM »

Just picked up a "new" 2014 cvo softail deluxe in Lancaster, PA .  Traded in a 06 SEUC.  The ride on the softail seems quite a bit harder when going over bumps in the road.  Haven't checked the rear shock setting, but the front hits hard too.
Is this typical for the softail?  Is it worth changing the front suspension?

If I remember correctly Softails come from the factory with the rear suspension set at the softest (lowest preload) setting.  If you weight more than 120 pounds you may need to get the rear suspension preload adjusted properly for your weight, so the rear suspension doesn't bottom on every flaw in the road.  As for the front end, the front suspension on the Softails and Dyna's hasn't exactly kept up with the competition.  So yes, I'm sure you could find an aftermarket solution for the front end that would improve handling and ride comfort.
