Tour Pack Rack Luggage
« on: January 17, 2007, 04:34:59 PM »

I am one of those who does like the looks of the leather tourpack but I would love to be able to have a good fitting canvas luggage bag to attach to the narrower luggage rack.  I am presently using an altered Dekker Supreme from my original Ultra but it flops and moves around in the wind.  Anyone know of a custom fit unit that will fit the narrower rack and hold plenty like the Dekker by T bag?

Any help would be appreciated and thanks.

Any pics of it on the bike?  I've been trying to figure out the best bag for the smaller rack on our tour paks.

Check out these new bags from Dowco Inc. There pretty slick. Built very vice and convenient to use. Looks like they'll last a long time. We bought the Garment bag and the Main Bag. My buddy also bought the main bag and really likes it.  It fits the contoured luggage rack perfectly.

Willy & Max also have these exact same bags but do not show them on their website. I believe Dowco makes them for Willy & Max also.

www.dowco-inc.com Upload the file for Iron Rider Lugage System

If your interested in any of them and can't locate them for purchase let me know. I can get them for you at a discount of 10-15%. Iron Rider or Willie & Max.

Take care,

Grover

I have used this:http://www.tourmaster.com/xcart/product.php?productid=148&cat=31
Expandable, separate outside pockets, and built in bungies on bottom for securing to rack. Use it for rain gear mostly ( will also fit inside tour pak when empty). good luck john

I found the T-Bag Universal Helmet bag works great!  I used it on my trip to Sturgis last summer.  I had a leather shop add some straps to the front and it fits perfectly.  In the 4k mile trip, I didn't have a single problem.  It also comes with a rain cover, so that helped.  Here are some pics...

I bought a Kury Roll Bag last year and was disappointed.  It was smaller than I expected and it's a bitch trying to figure out how to attach it.  I sold it on eBay and am still looking.  I think the Main Bag by Dowco looks like something that will work well and was confirmed by one of the posts above.  I'd love to see some pictures of the Main Bag mounted on the CUSE.

SE_Ultra,
Sweet Pic, that could be used in and advertisement. [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif].   Did you have to do any mods to the Kury Roll Bag for it to work on the SE tour pak?

Nice George.  What photo program did you use to do that?  I run Paint Shop Pro and am pretty happy with what it can do, but am interested in what one you use.

As a matter of fact, Paint Shop Pro!  I own versions 7, 8 & 9 and use 8 at work and now 9 at home. It took me some time to learn how to use it but I followed many tutorial web sites after searching for them and that was the best help yet. Also  took an Adobe course at work but only use PSP.  [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

what about this new one?

http://www.kuryakyn.com/products.asp?bn=harley&ci=3743

Mount the Grantraveler as a Tour Trunk or on top of your tour trunk for extra storage room. The semi-rigid construction and adjustable universal straps adds ease to securing this bag to your motorcycle either packed full or empty. Features an expandable top and removable inner bottom pad which gives you added flexibility to keep it small or enlarge it for extra room when needed. Additional internal and external compartments offer you multiple options for packing. The two end pouches quick release and come with optional adjustable strap to carry over your shoulder, around your waist, or use the belt clips to conveniently take items with you. The pullout handle and wheels make dragging this bag to your motorcycle and in the airport a snap. In traditional Kuryakyn design this bag has weather-resistant construction of 1200 denier material with leather accents for style and comes with a full rain cover for that severe inclement weather. For the serious motorcycle traveler it’s hard to beat.

The Grantraveler is a nice looking bag but I would be concerned about fitment on the CUSE tour pack rack.  The Grantraveler is 17" deep (front to back).  According to my measurements if you mounted so the back edge was even with the rear most part of the rack it would extend over the backrest and interfere with the passenger.

The Dowco or Willie & Max Main Bag is 11x11x20 and I would think should fit nicely.  I'm still waiting for someone to post of picture of the Main Bag on their CUSE.

I love them! First, they look cool. Second they actually work! It is the only set that was a real cb antenna, tunable with proper loading. Third, they look cool! LOL

Different View Point

I use FedEx or UPS as I normally don't carry a lot of extra bags on my scooter
95% of the time I know where I am staying and just ship a box of clean clothes to that hotel/motel
Then I have a shipping center ship my dirty clothes back to my home and I am not bogged down on my scooter
It doesn't cost but maybe $10.00 to ship a box of clothes each way
Just a different view point on loading up the scooter with a weeks worth of clothes and stuff

I see HD have released their Sac to fit the CUSE rack at last:

94800-00A

IN-STORE PURCHASE ONLY Contact dealer for pricing and availability.

Fits Tour-Pak® lids equipped with Premium Tour-Pak® Luggage Rack P/N 53665-87, FLHTCUSE Tour-Pak® Luggage Rack P/N 79125-06 and Contoured Luggage Rack P/N 79148-06A.

That's what I have, and I like it, but of course the one I have doesn't fit the CUSE rack.  They are made by Sac for HD, but no mention of the modified one on Sac's website...

WONDERFUL... ::)  I love that bag, in fact, I have the one 98400-00 for the large tour pak rack for sale here: http://flhrsei.org/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?num=1167958944  And I just bought the Kuryakyn 4142 from the posts here.

Anyone interested in the Kuryakyn 4142?  I only had it out of the box once to look at it.  $90 plus shipping.

I want one of these new 98400-00A bags now that they're out for our bikes.  :2vrolijk_21:

Has anyone tried this new bag from Kuryakyn?

http://www.kuryakyn.com/products.asp?bn=harley&ci=3355

Since Kury's web site doesn't list the dimensions I emailed them and this was their response:

The dimensions for the classic tour bag is 12" long X 11" high X 21" wide and expands to 24" wide.

Basically looks to me like a larger version of their roll tour trunk bag.

For those of you interested in the new SAC bag from Harley that fits the Contour Rack on the CUSE.  SAC now has them on their web site.  It is only available in the Rack Half SAC.  It's a lot cheper than the one from Harley.  Comes in leather or nylon.  Just click on the Rack Half SAC in either leather or nyon and it will give you a fitment choice for either the Premium Rack or the Contoured Rack.

Please give us a report when you get the bag as to fitment, size, etc.

I am very close to ordering one myslef but would like some info from someone that actually has one.  Any one know where you can get one other than directly from SAC and maybe at a discounted price?

I'm in possession!  :)

It fits just perfectly on the CUSE rack, and is the usual SAC great quality.  I went for the leather one, as I like that, and it keeps it all leather on the Tourpak.  Initially I was going to go for the 22" wide one, which was what I had to use on my last Ultra, but they talked me into the 17" one (same as the one in the HD catalogue), and I'm happy.   After all it's just 2½" narrower on each side than my old one. Still plenty of room in there, and the two side pockets are handy too.  As usual it comes with a cargo net, and the PVC ...... container thing, for want of a better word, that I never use.

Very nice, just what I need, and I can recommend it!

OK, here's a pic Dak.  Sorry it's not great - hard to get a decent pic in that part of the house, and do remember the bag is totally empty - it looks nicer full!

For those of you interested in the new SAC bag from Harley that fits the Contour Rack on the CUSE.  SAC now has them on their web site.  It is only available in the Rack Half SAC.  It's a lot cheper than the one from Harley.  Comes in leather or nylon.  Just click on the Rack Half SAC in either leather or nyon and it will give you a fitment choice for either the Premium Rack or the Contoured Rack.

http://www.coolsac.com/Browse.aspx?grouping_sku=310-rackhalfgrp&category_code=LUGGAGE

I bought the nylon HD SAC bag part number 94798-00A today from a local dealer and when I got it home, the velcro straps aren't even close to working with the luggage rack on my SEUC2.  It even stated on the label on the box that it's for the FLHTCUSE rack...what a major disappointment. :(  Now I have to take it back to the dealer and tell them that it wasn't even close for fitment.  It has two sets of straps and one singular velcro strap on it and none of them came even close to the bars of the rack.  In fact, the old bag that I had for my '02 fit better after I scrunched it down a little, then this new one that's supposed to be made for the rack.   Major disappointment....I'm going to look into the Kuryakin and see if that works better.

Red,

When I ordered mine, the guy at SAC (Neil?) told me I needed the 1/2 rack SAC. P/N 310-HSD200L( invoice in hand, not the bag). It had 2 velcro attachment points in front and 2 in back with D rings on the side. He said that it would work. I'm wondering if someone didn't switch bags on you?

AJ,
The dealer had just gotten it in stock from UPS yesterday, they hadn't even taken it out of the box.  It looks just like my old SAC for my '02, but has an extra set of velcro straps on it.  I'm soooooooo pi$$ed right now...

LOL, I'll be this is a first, I'm quoting myself.  I played around with the HD SAC today, and got it finally to work on the contoured luggage rack.  It seems when they put this one together at the factory, they put the formed waterproof interior piece in wrong and it caused the bag to be shaped in such a way that the two sets of straps werent' even close to wrapping around the bars of the rack.  After taking the interior piece out and moving it around inside of the nylon shell, I finally got the shape right so that it works on the rack now.   So disregard my posting about them not working.  If you get one that it doesn't work, do what I did and get the bag shaped differently, then it will fit on the rack...I know this sounds kinda funky, but it worked for me.

Just ordered mine directly from SAC.  Got the nylon bag for $89.95.  I don't understand why anyone would buy one from Harley when you can get the same exact bag from SAC for about half the money.  But, each to their own.  :huepfenlol2:

Actually, It's not the same bag.  The one I got from HD is the equivalent to the Ultra Rack Half SAC with the formed dye-cut polypropylene interior.  They are the same price for the nylon...$179.95.  (The leather HD bag is actually $50 cheaper than the Ultra Rack Half SAC leather.) The Rack Half for $89 has a removable vinyl liner, which is basically a vinyl bag and they don't guarantee it being waterproof.

I too bought the HD SAC and was really PO'ed that it did not fit. I too was embarrassed when I called SAC and talked to Pete, the owner. He told me how to hook it on and I felt like a real idiot. The problem is the HD directions tell you to use the single strap on the front of the rack. This is not so for the Premium tour pack racks. Disregard the HD instructions and use two velco straps for the front and two for the rear. Works great.

Dunno what went wrong there, Charlie - but don't give up, order the SAC version, which is the same bag, and (as you can see from my pic!) fits perfectly.  And even at a discount from Zanotti!

Don,
I, like I always do, didn't even look at the instructions until you mentioned them, and you're right, they are for the old bag, with the three velcro straps, not the new one with the 5 straps.  I had tried all combinations of straps, even turning the bag around with the handle to the rear...no combination of straps worked until I "reshaped" the bag by shifting the formed inner lining around.  I think the company just put it together wrong...everything is good now. ;)

I was about ready to set that thing on fire yesterday... ;D, but with cooler head prevailing today, I worked with it until I found the problem.  It fits great now. Thanks for the encouragement.

OK, Mine also has 5 straps on it, what is the 5th strap for ??

My wife says I should send it back, as the 5th one near the handle will allow a girl with long hair to get her hair snagged in the velcrow....when I mentioned to her that she does not have long hair......she didnt say anything, I am therefore asumming that its now OK for me to take long haired girls on trips that require an overnite rack sac ??. ...or is this just my overactive imagination at work again?.

The fifth strap is for the full-size luggage rack...this bag will fit both the premium luggage rack and the contoured luggage rack.  Your other question about long-hair riders of the female persuasion....well, I'm not touching that one. ::)

Nothing wrong with long haired girls and their rack.... provided it's a nice rack.

Mesh pouch I made to fill the middle 'mystery' space in the top of the leather tour pack lid.

Used velcro & black mesh material.  Not fancy - just functional.

View of top of lid with pouch:

Great idea, and use of wasted space. :2vrolijk_21: You better get a patent on that before the MoCo does and charges others an arm/leg for it.

Great idea, and use of wasted space. :2vrolijk_21: You better get a patent on that before the MoCo does and charges others an arm/leg for it.

Mesh (black nylon net) was $.24 & since I was out of velcro it was $6.95.  So I have a whopping $7.19 invested in it.

Good suggestion, dood. MoCo would sell it for $39.95+ but would most likely require a tour pak lid stiffener adapter for $79.95 for added stability.  :huepfenjump3:

And of course, it would come with a warning notice that anything more than 1 ounce carried in it could cause death or serious injury!  :)

The MoCo would hire you to write for them.   ;)

I can't sleep

Hard10,

Can you repost exactly which bag you ordered.  I just read this thread and I am confused if it is the HD or the SAC bag.  A part number would be appreciated.

I got the SAC bag. I ordered it from Neil at SAC at the Daytona bike week. SAC makes the bag for HD. It is the exact same bag without the HD logo sewn onto the side. It even has the HD warning label sewn inside (warning about weight limitations). I've got it right here in my hands but don't see a part # on it. It does say " This bag is intended for use on the Tour-Pak® rack 53665-87 only." Now I know this p/n does not match our leather TP. The SAC part # on my invoice is: 310-HSD200L. I paid $150 w/ tax & shipping. I just took a picture. You can see the SAC label w/ the "HD" tag inside.

I just received my bag. It only has four velcro straps. Fits the contour rac perfectly! I went with the nylon Half Sac $89.95. Part #310-HSD200

I've got the same bag but it does have 5 velcro straps.  4 that attach to the rack and one up by the handle that I have no idea what it's for.

Isn't that so it can fit both the contour rack that we have, and the bigger rack too?

Like a few others, I "received" an improper bag.  Last Christmas my father got me on of the expandable duffles designed for the king Tour Pak.  No worky.  I think I'm getting tired of it laying around useless, sooooo.............anywho, I've been looking at the part number listed above.  Nice bag, and if one can efficiently pack it, it will hold alot.  I suppose all those Army years of living out of a dufflebag are conducive to efficient Harley packing.
