MyCVO needs your prayers!!
« on: January 18, 2007, 10:09:14 PM »

Some of you may have noticed how little MyCVO has been on the site recently.  Well, as a matter of fact, he's been on here very little since Maggie Valley.  Other than DCFiremann, Mark is the person on here that I've known the longest!  He encouraged me not to give up and to take the MSF class.  He didn't laugh at my stupid questions, never minded giving me part numbers off of Mark Jr's Sportster and most importantly, didn't rat me out or post pics of me on the board when no one knew anything about me!  LOL!  He also took part into tricking me into riding the Dragon when I was chickening out and already decided to see the Dragon as a passenger!  But it worked out well with just DC, MyCVO, GHaz and theVgirl!  (But we did run into Sponserv at the MV restaurant)!

I knew something was wrong when he didn't post a million pics and have the video edited and sent out to us all within a week or two.  Well, folks, MyCVO is one of my best biker buddies and he needs your prayers.

As Mark said, he wasn't his normal self in Maggie Valley.  He's normally very outgoing, happy-go-lucky, never meets a stranger, life of the party type of guy.  At most events, he'd meet 100 new folks and have twice as many pics.  Instead he was somewhat quiet and subdued.  Then, upon returning home, MyCVO had electrical problems at his house.  When he started feeling bad, he just shook it off as stress and a winter bug.  Several weeks went by and he finally decided to go to the doctor for chest pains.  After xrays, he was diagnosed with a touch of pneumonia (which was a wrong diagnosis).  After the pain became so severe that he thought he was having a heart attack, MyCVO went back to the doctor.  To quote Mark, "Ya it got to the point where it was to much for me to make it from my van to the front door of a store without needing to sit down and catch my breath before going in (the one time I tried to go shopping for xmas with Kathy). I knew then I had something really wrong with me."

He waited until the day after Christmas to go back and was admitted to the hospital for nearly a week.  When admitted they concluded that he had congestive heart failure due to viral infection caught back in early October that attacked his heart.  The x-rays taking showed his heart as being way over sized, but not pumping what blood was needed, and pumping way too fast.  After 4 days in the hospital - and them having to go look for him because he wouldn't stay in bed - they decided to release him on the 5th day with orders to rest, etc.  On Monday, he went back to the doctor to have a monitor installed that he needed to wear for a day.  I was hoping he'd have the results back from that test before posting this, but I haven't heard anything yet.  Fortunately, as Mark pointed out, that unlike my mom, they found no blackened areas in his heart and will most likely be in the one-third of patients that recover.  However, they do not know to what extent and are not making any promises!

Luckily, Mark is a high-energy person that was in good shape and knew something was terribly wrong and was not so stubborn that he didn't go to the doctor.  I'm glad they caught it so soon and treated him for it.  Right now, he's still very sick and needs to take off time to rest and recuperate.  I know it's killing him, but if he follows the doctor's orders, he'll get back to riding!!!

I asked Mark if it was ok for me to let you guys know before posting this.  I thought you all would want to know what's going on with him.  Please keep him in your prayers.  Kathy and the kids need your prayers as well.  His brother, GHaz, hopefully will update this as things progress or maybe MyCVO will when he gets the energy!!

Thanks,
V

Not a day goes by I don't say a prayer for everyone on this site. And especially when we have someone down. I've said it before, but it bears saying again. When I was down and in the ICU and ready to give up, Beags came in and told me of the prayers being said for me and the word being spoken and as I told JR in MV, I really could feel the strength being offered me by my brothers and sisters of the road. MYCVO, you will be ok because the good folks on this site will reach out to you and see that you are.

I was out of town when I heard about my buddy Mark and his situation and my heart has been heavy as I have been praying for Mark and Kathy and the kids. I have been asking God how to pray for this situation. Our first response is always to fix it, make the hurt go away, we don't want to see anyone we Love suffer! Well maybe God does. :o What??? Maybe God has allowed this to get Marks attention. Maybe he has been so busy that he hasn't paid attention to what God wants for him, Maybe, just Maybe God has allowed this for him to reflect on something that's more important than anything in this world, like eternal life in heaven instead of separation from God in Hell. Maybe God has allowed this to happen for YOU!!

My God is an Awesome God who is filled with Grace and Mercy. His Love is Perfect as He is Perfect. You are only fooling yourself if you think God is not in control of all situations and circumstances. During some of my darkest times my Lord has shown himself to me in a mighty way, giving me the strength to endure and afterwards I have seen some of my greatest spiritual growths, thanking God for seeing me thru it and understanding his Glory!

One of my Brothers had his wife die from breast Cancer. I look back and see how God was at work in so many lives over 1 persons illness. My Brothers relationship with his wife was beginning to to go in opposite directions. For the remaining 3 years God brought them closer as any husband and wife I know. God used Her illness on a visit with us for almost a month to touch many lives. We ministered to each other and both were Blessed. But her Blessings were Greater. Upon her return home she Loved and Hugged us as she knew this would be her Last, and it was. When she got home she called us up and said she wanted to tell us she knew for sure she was going to heaven and everything will be alright. She said she prayed for Jesus to save her and HE did. She got Baptised at her church and weeks later God took her home!

For me it's all about Faith. Faith in a God that orchestrated the Bible which is His Holy Word. From His Word I profess these beliefs and try to live by them. His Word tells us that we all a heartbeat away from eternity. His Love is unfailing and he will never leave you or forsake those who call him Father.

Mark, I want you to know that I Love you. For just the short time I met you and your brother in MV, a bond was there for me. I have been Blessed and encouraged when I have read your posts. I have opened my heart today and am sorry if I offended anyone, my intentions are Pure and in Love. My prayers go out to you Kathy and the kids and this is how I pray.

I pray that first and foremost you can call Him Father! I pray that God gives you the peace He has given me on healing your Heart. I pray for Wisdom and Understanding to why God has allowed this to happen and may he open your heart to His Truths. I am Not asking these things  from a warm fuzzy feeling I have inside. I am asking these things in the Power and Authority giving to me in the Name of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!!!

Bless you my Sweet Brother!

                                                                            John

If ever you or anyone else hear want to talk I would love to give you my phone #! Just shoot me a PM. Gods Sweet Love! [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

Gary,
Please pass along to Mark that we'll be right here when he's well enough. His focus should be on healing his body. We'll go to work on his spirit when he joins us once again. I'm sure even the most severe of your moderator breathren will let us offer up some goofy threads to give him a chuckle or two. Glad he's coming along and thanks for keeping us informed - - especially considering you're only a couple weeks out of the O.R. yourself.

Hi guys and gals, I got an email update on Mark today.  I just caught up on this thread, and thanks d00d for keeping everyone up-to-date.  I apologize for being slack!  For those of you with older children, its that life-altering time in my 2nd son's life called "senior year!"  I have been trying to survive the deadlines, the scheduling, and the EXPENSE!!!

Mark said he's feeling good and getting things done around his house, but he's ready to go back to work!!  Sounds like he'll be back to his ol' self in no time!!!

If I'm not mistaken, his email and IM are listed on this site, so feel free to send him an email!  Sometimes, a note from a friend or two can help brighten the dim world of recovery!!!!!

Thanks,
V

Hello everyone!!

Thank you one and all for your prayers and thoughts of concern for me!
I am doing much better as Gary said, and am just about to get back to working and carrying on with life in general.
I am sorry for not being on the site and talking with all you guys, I've also had to stop smoking and sitting here playing on the site is a time when I'd be puffing away, so that was something I had to refrain from doing. I hope that I can beat this habit, and I'm working on that.
I will try to get on more often now that I'm getting on top of things again.
Nice new look for the site, this will take a little getting used to as well.
OMG!!   :o SPELL CHECK!! Thanks guys!!
V what can I say? Thanks and sorry at the same time I guess.

Welcome back Mark! :) :2vrolijk_21:

It's good to hear that all is going well and things are getting back to normal. Just make sure to ease into everything.

Wishing you all the strength and support for kicking the smoking habit.....I need to snuff out that problem as well! Try sunflower seeds or twizzlers....it seems to ease the tension a little for me.

Keep on postin' Bro, it's good to hear from you :2vrolijk_21:

Take care,

Hello everyone!!

Hey Mark,

Had waited until you poked your head in to say you were feeling better so could offer a welcome back instead of anything short of that.  Glad to read you're feeling better and have the worst of it all behind you.  The timing was impeccable though.  You'll be at 100% for the spring riding season  :2vrolijk_21: .

Glad to see you back,

Glad to hear your doing better Mark, I needed to quit last year for several reasons also. You need to pick a date in your mind and do it, I knew I was stronger than those dang things I just needed to believe in myself and follow through, I thought about it and realized I had accomplished much harder things in the past. For me the savior was bubble gum - whenever I got an urge I grabbed the gum - been 4.5 months now, the first three days are the worst! You could try the Nicotine Gum but I chose not too after watching a bud get hooked on that as bad as he was ever hooked on smokes - good luck - were pulling for you :)

Absolutely Great News to hear you are on the mend and whether you like the choice or not, the quitting the smoking will be the best thing you have ever done for yourself.  I know they (whoever they are) always say to change your habits to help you get over the habit of the smoke, but we wish you could find a way to be sitting here with all of us and not smoke.  Any time you get an urge say so online and we will all get up and e-kick you!  haaa haa.  Keep up the good work.

Hi Mark,
Thanks for the support. I stopped the day I went in the hospital and have'nt spent a dime for another pack to date, so that's 46 days now. I'm on the patch and have only small urges once in awhile. I'm sure if I could ride this would be a lot easier to do.
Hope all is well with you and Lynn, and winter isn't beating up on you guys.

Hi Don,
Thanks for the welcome back. Ya, I am feeling much better, can run up and down stairs again without losing my breath and the fingertips going white. I'm not out of the woods yet (so my doctors keep telling me) they have me under surveillance for the next year. But even in this condition I'm go to go for riding season!!!!!

Feeling better each day. :2vrolijk_21: Started outpatient physical therapy and gaining strength and flexibility back daily. I'm exercising (stretching/flexibility/resistance) twice a day. I can tell things are progressing and my goal is to be back on my bike by spring (hopefully Myrtle Beach Bike Week). I've gone from a walker, crutches, to now just using a cane to get around (all this within 3 weeks of surgery) so I'm really happy. I think I remember you mentioning you were thinking about doing Myrtle this year, and if things work out for me maybe I'll see you there.

Gary,
I tell you I'm amazed of how fast one can recoup from such a surgery! No doubt at that rate you will be at MB, and yes I am planning on going there this year. I have yet to set up my stay as of yet, I'm still looking for a place to stay. My wife and brother Glenn will be coming to. I'm sure we will be seeing you there as well as many other members.
You keep it up bro and get back to your old self (Hell!! better than your old self)

Welcome back and its good to see your on the mend. Best of luck to you kickin' the habit. Maybe you could substitute CVOHarley for it everytime you get the urge. (It may be more expensive though :huepfenlol2:)

Hi Mark,
Thanks for the support.
Mark ;)

Good going Man :2vrolijk_21:

This winter is really dragging on for us. The last week we had lows of -18 to highs of around +10. Our average temp should be about 31. I can't wait for that! Then I can go out in shorts and a t-shirt....it'll feel like a damn heat wave :huepfenlol2:!!! But I guess I'd rather have those temps than all the snow New York is getting...that's crazy!

Before we know it we'll all be in the wind and all will be good ;D

Take care,

Mark

Damn Mark, that's some cold weather you have your way! It's been only cold here but not as cold as you've had, and little to no snow all winter so far. I guess New york is getting our share of snow as well. ;D Can't complain  :2vrolijk_21:

I went to one of my friends house yesterday (Eddie) he bought the 07 Road King and he just got it out of the shop, he had the Rinehart's Tru-duals put on, OMG does that 110 sound sweeeeeeeeeeeeeet!!!!
It has a serious bark to it!! He was getting way tired of listening to mine, and his being so quiet.
I can't wait to hear it thru the gears as we are riding. Soon bro soon :orange:

Hello again,
I'm okay I guess. I have to go to another specialist in Boston soon. I wont bother you or the site with the details
As of late I've been doing nothing much else but working- as my work isn't as physically demanding as it was at this point, but it's been 6-7 days a week. My energy level has been way off, so when I'm home I've been hitting the bed.
I finally cleaned my bike today- first time since M.V. that's got to be the longest time ever for me not cleaning my bike. I was glad to see the chrome held up and no signs of peeling from brake dust being on them for such a long time.
I feel kinda embarrassed for not getting on the site much, but what can I say.
Hope all is well with all my brothers here at CVO.HARLEY

Hi Gary,
How's the walking and kneeling and all those other important body movement going for you?
Have you started doing any back flips yet? From the sounds of your recoup when last we spoke, I wouldn't be to surprised to hear you have.
Me, hasn't been as good as I had hoped for by this time. Not that I'm sitting around all day with a blanket, but not as though I'd try to break into a run- thats for sure.
One of the nice aspects of riding is that theres not much physical requirement needed to sit and enjoy! And I'm really looking forward to doing some soon.

It's great to hear from you Mark :) Like Dood said, We ARE family here. It's never a bother to hear from a brother. Just remember to go at a slower pace. 6-7 days a week isn't a slower pace man. Make some time for yourself.

No need to be embareassed. Unless your shooting us the Massachusetts moon :huepfenlol2:

Take it one day at a time....Eventually it'll all be back to normal.

Hope to hear from you more often :2vrolijk_21:

Mark,
Things are going well for me. Physical therapy is all done, and I'm now able to go to the gym on my own to continue rehab. I've been able to get out and ride a few times when weather permitted. Nothing really long to test out the new parts (hip) yet. Just a couple 80 - 100 mile rides, but so far so good.

Hope when the weather permits you'll feel like getting out in the wind yourself. That'll be good therapy for you. Take care.

Hi Mark,
Ya I know I shouldn't be going on that schedule but with that much time down it has put a strain on me.
I hope that I'll be back to my normal working mode soon, and riding. Hate to say but having all this rain and nasty weather is kind of a blessing for me- no need to dwell on the bike or riding

Hi David,
You have my prayers bro. Tell me, how are you doing? How long has it been for you?
Funny, well not funny-- how fast things can change and ones head is spinning around trying to get a grip on what the hell happened and why.
I can't say that I'm on that road to recovery yet, more like at the start of the road on not got the traveling papers.

Hi Mark,
Here is the link about my surgery,
http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=12548.0

It was March 30th and I have been home a little over a week. I gets better everyday but it still hurts to cough. I have to wait at least 5 more weeks to drive or ride my bike maybe more and that is hard for me with the weather getting better but I will follow the doctor's advice.
Your are right in that something like this will change your life in an instant and you get to see yourself as a different person. It also let's you put things in life into perspective too.

David,
I'm sure you'll be out there riding soon. As you said follow their advice and get better.
? for you- not that I presume to know much of these matters, but I would imagine your flow rate was way off before your op- did they tell you how it is since the op?

Hi Bill,
How's all with you? Sorry I've been off the site as much as I've been. Just trying to get crap together and dealing with all these additional hurdles.
Have you got out much this season?

Hi Mike,
First of all how'd that trip go? did you get those fix ups done for V's house? She's been dyeing to get that 2nd floor faucet changed out for awhile now, even though it's not your Field, it doesn't seem to be her plumbers Field either!
I've taken off for a few days, so I'm trying to catch up alittle here. BTW since this sh-t happened to me, I didn't get anything done to my bike-the 6 speed is sitting on the shops' shelf waiting, and the motor upgrades are shelved as well for now. But I'm taking it in for it's spring service and inspection sticker and I'm hoping to be killing some bugs soon.
Hope everything is going along smoothly for you and V.

Q,
Thanks bro, and look forward to meeting up with you this season. Hopefully the rains will leave a few roads together enough to ride on. Looks like many in NH. and ME. are tore out again.

MyCVO,
What did the specialist in Boston say?  Can you give us an update?  Or send me a PM if you don't want to bore us with the details here?  Or get GHaz to do it for you....

We all miss you on the site and want to see the Maggie Valley video too!!!!

Keep in touch,

V

P.S.  Plumbing still not fixed right and managed to somehow screw up the phone today.  Weirdest thing is the DSL still works but no dial tone!
