On trips, I leave my SPOT locator "on" 24/7 overnight all trip. Should the bike be stolen, it will transmit a location signal until it's found by the idiot.  Same could be done all summer long, you would just need to replace the batteries more often.  This way it's always monitored as to location.  And can be found.
