Cam chain tensioner

Haven't heard much about failures lately but the shoes of course still wear.  Wondering what you engine builders encounter when you tear down a motor and inspect the stock parts.

What about going to gear drive cams to forestall future problems.  Of course you'd have to replace the stock crank or at least true it to get the lateral runout in tolerance.

Added:  and what about the 'outer' cam bearing just being the parent material of the cam support plate.  Any problems / excessive wear encountered there?
