Feeling Thankful...
« on: October 18, 2015, 10:57:59 AM »

Biketoberfest cut short by a motorist who decided to turn left from the right-hand lane on Seabreeze just off A1A...  Cited by Daytona Beach PD for an illegal left turn.

Kudo's to all of the good citizens who jumped in to help with first aid, called 911 and to the Daytona Beach EMS professionals who were outstanding.

My lovely wife took the brunt of it but is in good spirits, on pain meds and on the mend. Now back at home with the help of wonderful friends who had trailered-down and offered to swap bikes: Blue & my wife went on the trailer and in the truck and I rode his FLHR home.

Thankful it wasn't any worse and feeling blessed to have so many good friends.

Stuff happens...

It sounds like the Good Lord was watching over you and your wife, and I'm really glad neither of you was hurt worse.  Am also glad the cops cited the cager for the violation.  That's important.

I hope this doesn't ruin future driving for you or especially your wife.  Hang in there, and remain feeling thankful for the protection you were given from Above!  Hope you both are back in the saddle soon.

Glad you and the Ms. were not hurt badly!   Bike doesn't look to bad, either.

You might enjoy this story. At slower speeds, a Prius once turned right from the left hand lane, directly in front of me. I was able to hit the brakes but hit the right side door and fender of the Prius with my left side crash bar and floor board.  I had to replace both the crash bar and floor board pan at a total cost of $380.   There was $3,800 damage to the Prius. I called that revenge.

Glad you and the wife are okay and the cage driver was cited. As Greg said the bike doesn't look too bad but have it inspected with a fine tooth comb just to be sure.

Thank God it wasn't any worse. Hope your wife gets well soon.  Like Mike said get the bike checked out 100% after you tend to your wife.  I hope they burn the idiot that did it.

Was told it's a total write-off due to "frame damage" so brought it home today and swapped out all of my aftermarket parts for the OEM parts and pulled off the accessories / wiring before it goes off to the salvage yard next week.

Now looking for one of the other 900 or or so Sapphire Blue FLHRSE5's to replace it with.

Inattentive motorist was cited for illegal left turn; here's hoping GEICO make a fair offer on the payout so we don't get into a stare-down.

Glad you and the wife are on the mend and didn't require any replacement parts! Good luck with your search.

Happy to hear that you and yours wasn't hurt any worse.  A left turn cage usually doesn't end this well.  :2vrolijk_21:

In case you don't know (because the insurance companies never tell us), you have first "buy back" rights to your bike.  You just let your insurance agent know that you want to buy it back and ask him what salvage value is.  You can sell it for parts (especially the drive train) and just about double your money.  :2vrolijk_21:

Glad you both came though it.  I've said it before "really do not like this board" reading about sisters and brother riders going down.

Glad you and your wife are ok.  Always scary to read about these types of events.  The wife and i travel where you were on a weekly basis to the Oyster Pub 2 blocks down on Seabreeze.   When I totaled my 05 the insurance company wanted stupid money for the salvage.  they were over the 32k on dmg and still wanted 8k for the salvage.
