Appreciate all of the exploring done by earlier adopters. Managed to sort this out without too many tears today. Note it was certainly not intuitive but went pretty much as follows:

1. Updated patch 19.2 ..whatever we are up to........ on a freshly formatted fat32 8gb usb as per previous patches
2. Exported fingerprint as per directions in manual/posts on a freshly formatted fat 32 16gb usb
3. Downloaded navi-extras onto desktop
4. Updated files on fingerprint usb. The navi-extras app was little help and luckily I was able to follow guidance from earlier posters. the key issue was to update both the base file and the US maps file which took about an hour to download and does not show up in the navi-extras software in any great hurry.
You have to wait for it
5. Loaded into bike using renamed iso file. Pretty straightforward again just some time required.
6. No problems took around an hour before Lucille declared all was ok & she was updated.

Will take Lucille out for a spin tomorrow and see what happens map wise.

Thanks very much for taking the time to write up your experiences and save me time, frustration & cuss words.

Cheers Tom
So put it in rider speak.... how many beers did it take?  ;D

Well I am frustrated beyond words. I love my bike and I love Harley's in general. But this has to be the biggest pos set up I have ever seen. I read in great detail every post about this update and I am grateful to the members for their input. I read in detail the boom manual as well. Followed each and every step as closely as possible with no luck. If I don't change the file name it stays stuck in the authenticating mode. If I change the file name the bike says it is a corrupt usb.

Now I am a computer dumb ass but my wife is a computer whiz and she couldn't make this pos work. I am appreciative that members suggested changing the file name. But what infuriates me is nonwhere that I can find is that step suggested. I didn't see that step in the navietrax help guides, not in the boom manual or anywhere else. So if that step isn't listed what other steps were just over looked.

I have a great relationship with my dealer but they won't do the GPS updates only the radio. So we get 3 free updates over the next five years for having a CVO. And what good is that when you can't get the update or it takes you unlimited hours to accomplish what should be a very simple task.

Yes I am pissed cause this sucks!!!!!! Rant over

Hondo,

You have every right to rant - map updates SHOULD BE SIMPLE!  Harley didn't test this software. There is no other explanation. I too have the "Waiting For Authentication" forever issue on a 2016 FLHXSE that has 1.19.1.2 software installed. Naviextras says I have an update which it placed on the USB stick. Place the stick in the bike and you get "Waiting For Authentication" forever.

We should not have to rename files!

Harley software quality is terrible!

Pissed off in Frisco,

Clyde

Finally, I thought I would try again today. Downloaded the fingerprint from bike. Downloaded the new map from website. Put USB into bike, and for about an hour is just kept saying "authenticating." Pulled it out. put it back in. Walked away, came back, and looked like it had stopped doing anything. Just the radio was playing. So, I pulled the USB out and stuck it back in. Saw the famous "authenticating" and walked away. Came back a minute later and saw a screen asking me to make sure the ignition was in the ACC position. BINGO!  I clicked YES, and about an hour and half later all was uploaded. :)  I looked at the NAV around my home, however, and it doesn't even show a new Freeway that runs near my home.  I guess it wasn't completed until after Qtr 2 of 2014. Oh well, I'm as updated as I can be now. Harley really needs to make this easier.

I must be blind. How the heck do you download the bikes footprint to the USB stick?  I found a mentioning in the audio manual but can't make it happen.

Any advice?

To be able to install navigation updates, you will need to create a "fingerprint" of your system on a USB storage. To create a "fingerprint" follow the steps below:

Make sure USB stick is 16gb and formatted Fat32

0. Connect USB stick, press Home button.

1.Select 'Setup' menu.

2. Scroll down, select 'System Information'.

3. Scroll down, select 'Navigation'.

4. Select 'Export for update'.

5. Select connected USB stick.

6. 'Exporting data. Please wait...'

7. 'Export Complete'.

8. Press OK

9. Remove USB stick

10. Connect fingerprint to PC

Just did the update, had to change the file name. Without the help from this forum, it would have been impossible to figure out how to install it.

Thanks guys!

So how the heck does a name Change of the file happening?

I am trying but it tells me that I can't change the file name  :nixweiss:

Do you make a copy of the file, rename it, and then delete the original file?

Any help will be appreciated.

I will assume you are using windows. with the file on the USB stick
and still plugged in to the computer Right click on the file move down to rename change name click enter remove usb go to bike.

I ended up changing the name on the .iso from swdl to swdl_boombox_6.5GT_CVO.iso

Do this at your own risk it has worked for many but a few have had to
do a factory reset but that is also very easy.

Thanks for the tip but no joy. When I change the file name it does not recognize the usb stick and when I leave it with just Swdl it just run in circles for ever.

I am drawing a blank!!

All that info is in the infortainment system. Just read the owners manual that came with the radio and it will lead you to the screen that provides what you want to know.
I assume you have been to some of the screens before when you put in the HD supplied updates (not maps but software).

Maybe I am changing the name on the wrong file?  I get error messages as soon as I change it to the same string as yours and when I change back the system just "chugs".

When I look at the content on the USB stick I see three files.

1:NaviSync (I assume this is the original finger print from the Boombox system that I uploaded)

2: Swdl  (this is the Disc image File) and this is the one I changed the file name on. Is this the correct file or should I dig deeper?

3: Synctool. Looks to be. PDF of sorts.

I will assume you are using windows. with the file on the USB stick
and still plugged in to the computer Right click on the file move down to rename change name click enter remove usb go to bike.

I ended up changing the name on the .iso from swdl to swdl_boombox_6.5GT_CVO.iso
