Tall Handlebars
« on: January 04, 2016, 09:51:11 PM »

I'm new to the forum, and looking for some pics and advice from other tall riders. I ride a 2015 RGU, I stand at 6'10" and weigh around 280, I really need some new bars. Thinking of going with Factory 47 bars, but haven't been able to find a pic, or any other guys that have went with 18s or 20s. I would really like to know what there going to look like before I buy, and how they fit. I measured and got 20" as a rough height for me, but that seems really tall. On my ultra 16s were perfect, this is my first Glide and its looks like the handlebar mount position is different. Thanks in advance.

Other than the fairing there is no difference between the Ultra and the Glide as far as handlebar mounting position is concerned.  If 16" was perfect on your Ultra, it should be the same on your Glide.

Factory 47 makes great bars with positive reviews on this site.  Wild1 Chubby's are an alternative.  Use the search function to find those threads and ask those site members their opinion. I just installed 12" Wild1 Reapers and love them, but I'm 6'2", can't imagine being 6'10"!

All the touring bikes, Electra-glide, Street-glide, Road Glide, Road King and such handle bar mounts are in the same location as far as in relation to the steering neck.

On my last CVO Road Glide I had Paul Yaffe monkey bars, 14".  On my Current CVO King I have Monkey bars also 14".  Really like the Yaffe bars, however after 6 months of they will be ready next month for my 15 CVO Road Glide I went with Factory 47.  They are very well built, thicker than the Yaffe bars too.  I went with 14".  My finding is they are a bit short, 13" is more like it.  Yaffe run tall, they are 15" in.

I am very happy with the factory 47, I would order 16" next time.  However with the 14 you can use the factory clutch and break line, with 16 they would have to be replaced.

Here are 14" Factory 47.

Thanks, we have the some bike, color and everything. Those bars look awesome, I think after hearing they run about an inch short, I will probably order the 18s. How tall are you?

I'm 6'1" tall.  I would have preferred the 16" however, I am very happy with the 14's.  I have done several 800 miles days with this set up.  I also did a 6900 mile trip in 14 days.

Check out the website for Factory 47 and check out how they measure their bars.  Handlebar manufacturers seem to measure rise differently.  For example, Factory 47 measures rise from the top of the crossbar to the top of the meathook whereas Wild1 measures it from the bottom of the crossbar to the underside of the handlebar grip on the Reapers.  In my case, the 12" Wild1 Reapers are almost as tall as the 14" Factory 47 Malos.
