2016 CVO Stree glide
« on: May 13, 2016, 03:52:08 PM »

Just received my 2016 a week ago and put the first 20 miles on it.  Had to take it into the shop.  Rattling noise inside the transmission or clutch.  Not sure.  Noise goes away when the clutch lever is pulled in.  Anyone else with this issue?  They wont even look at it for another week.  Booked.  Hopefully not a sign of things to come. I have several other Harleys and never had any issues at all with them.

Harley calls it a normal condition, but then they also call .012" runout of the crankshaft normal.  The truth is the noise is the result of the sloppy fit of various components in the Cruise Drive transmission.  While it's not likely to cause a sudden failure, it does make a brand new bike sound like an old clapped out model, which is not something most folks want to hear.

When you change your fluids, use a real transmission lube in your trans instead of the motor oil Harley installed.  Many have reported that switching to a real gear lube helped reduce the noise level AND improved shifting and finding neutral.  I imagine you'll get responses from several who have had the same issue.

They haven't corrected that YET!

26 thousand miles with shock proof and my 12 is pretty quiet or I'm used to it.

Sorry for not fully explaining Dan.
When new, mine was quiet when cold and so noisy when hot that I called the dealer. Thought something was seriously wrong!  Long story shortened...... "They all do it" and I think that may be true...sadly.   Put in red line shockproof and ride it!
