Nasty, nasty day
« on: April 19, 2016, 02:46:06 PM »

We live overlooking a road that's very popular with sports bikers at weekends.  There are accidents fairly frequently, but this one was different.  This happened right in front of the house.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-tayside-central-36084278

Having heard the bang, we four were first on the scene. Lovely 24 year old girl riding a Suzuki 600 head on with a car. She was dead when we got to her - must have been instantaneous. Helmet and boots had come off, and a lot of broken bones. Not a nice afternoon and evening - we brought her male friend, who'd been riding on his bike ahead of her in to the house, as he
was obviously distraught. We sent for his parents, and brought them in to be with him, and we were the sort of police HQ, with lots of coming and goings. Being a fatal accident, the poor girl's body had to lie there for hours before they took her away.  Dreadful, dreadful day. :-(  Her parents called at the house yesterday, and Margot spoke to them - I was up in the office so
was unaware they'd arrived.  Her poor mother only wanted to know that she hadn't suffered, which of course she hadn't.  Apparently she'd only passed her bike test two weeks ago, and this was her first trip out since. Lot of people coming and going down by the road leaving flowers, cards, toys etc. at the moment.

Even though we were not involved, I find it very hard to deal with.

What a shame. Sorry you had to be a part of that but it sounds like you did a great thing, kudos to you and condolences to the family.

Such a tragedy. It tough just reading about it. Having to experience it first hand like you did must be tough to deal with. You did the right thing by taking such good care of the young man in his moment of need.

I am sure the memories of this will be with you for a log time, Talking about it to your friends and family will get you through this. I can't imagine what you feel like after experiencing this.

We all need to learn from these terrible incidents that we are vulnerable out there and need to make sure that when we ride, we. ride in a manor that ensures we will be home with our families.

Keep your spirits up.

Sad day indeed. Anytime an event like this happens it is very sad, and being on scene makes it worse. I know this doesn't sound right, but was glad my first thoughts, when I opened your post, were quickly dispelled. You scared the wits out of me Jim. So sorry for the young Lady and her family.

Yes, I understand that seeing the post would give you a fright, Jimmy!  Didn't think about that at the time.

That must have been difficult and I am glad some as caring as you was there to help. I had a time when someone was riding with me (two up) and of course we were first to be there as well. Had families from hours away come at stay at our place as things progressed. It was hard on everyone and the parents were looking for answers and trying to understand how the accident happened.  I think helping like you did was admirable!

We only did what anyone would do, I think.  Just wish it hadn't happened.  :'(
