XM radio mount
« on: February 12, 2007, 12:25:07 PM »

I'll be mounting my extra XM radio they gave me for being such a good customer.I ordered a mount, I'll try and attach a pic. I plugged it into the cigarette lighter in the garage just to try it out on the radio and had a ton of interference. Am I going to get that on the road? Has anyone done XM? What a stupid question with this group!

CVO....you won't be able to pick much, if anything, up inside the garage or underneath most any kind of solid object like parking decks, bridges, etc.  It has to see the sky to pick up the satelite signal clearly.

Mine works in the garage and inside my house.  I am told that XM also has some terrestrial based antenna in urban areas. Some XM radios can tell you where the signal is coming from, ie heaven or Earth.

CVO I used that mount with my Sirius. It worked pretty good I just need to cut some notches to get it to work with my setup.

I hate XM

My wife has Sirus in her Jeep and it works so much better than XM, plus it has NFL.

I did move my XM antenna from under the fairing to on top of my dash & it works significantly better.  Just like the roof blocks the signal when in the garage, the fairing blocks it also.  I can now get XM service in my garage with the antenna moved.  For those of you that have the factory XM the antenna is mounted on a bracket, under the fairing on the left side.  It is real easy to move it.  Doesn't look that great sitting on the dash but it works better.

How did you get it up there without pinching the wire?  I had mine up there and it worked 10 times better, but found that the wire was getting pinched and was afraid it would eventually wear it through.  Did you stick it to the dash with Velcro?

Oh yea...you cannot cut an XM antenna wire.....don't ask :-[

I found this to be a handy addition to the mount shown.  It allows me to take the Roady 2 off of the bike quickly to lock it up.

Got mine at https://www.dallasmotorcycles.com/store/gadgetmounts.html

here's my XM Inno mount, and yes I get a lil noise when using the cig lighter and the aux jack. I use the FM transmitter and its much better, if I run off battery power instead of cig lighter - its all good. Oh - yeah - note antenna on dash. great reception.
