I've been doing ride reports less and less since I got on facebook in early 2016.  Got a couple of dinasours from the ancient times of this forum, Andy and Ernie lined up for a new year's day ride and a newer member of this forum, Mike aka Miguel, my road dog from here in San Diego joined us.

We agreed to meet at the newest casino in San Diego (outside of town about five miles), Hollywood Casino that just opened a month ago, for breakfast at 8:45 a.m. this morning.





And finally.......a casino with no smoking!!!!!

Here's where I have to extend an apology up front......    I didn't take my trusty, rusty Nikon that I've used for years posting on this forum.  All I have is my iphone.  Ever try to take pics on the fly with your gloves on with an iphone?  So, I'm sorry for these pics but damn glad I still have a phone.

For those of you in other countries or those in the northeast stuck in the snow.....these pics are taken east of San Diego within a mile or less (at one area the fence is within 100 ft. of the road) of the Mexico boarder, just for reference.














We passed quite a number of US Boarder Patrol Jeeps.....they are very, very pelntiful along this highway 24 hrs. a day, year around.  And they had their helicopter flying over head, following the fence line.  I'm thinking the USBP has to be the biggest fleet customer for Jeep.  They have a lot of SUVs also but a large majority of the two door jeeps.

Soon we're over the mountain and drop down in to the desert.  It was actually warm here as we stop for gas and the restroom but we knew that was going to be short lived.  Soon we would be headed back up over those mountains and it was snowing in Julian this morning.  We should be there in about an hour and a half.

Our last stop was in Julian, where it snowed several inches this morning but was melted by the time we rolled in to town this afternoon.  The tourist traffic was so heavy that the sherriff deputys were directing traffic.  From here, like horses headed home, we didn't stop or slow down until we entered our own respective barn doors.....

Thanks for the pix and RR. You guys look like it was a little cold there. It was a balmy 42* here today but there's enough piles of salt all over the road that even walking across the streets right now can be dangerous let alone getting a bike out.

It is unseasonably cold here.   They've been breaking records for the lows.  Normally it'd be a leather jacket at the most.
