This is the rear wheel.   She is very sore today.  Spirits are still very good.  These pictures really helped ease her mind as she kept questioning her actions.  She is tell me she must have her bike fixed or a new one with custom paint by the time the DR releases her to ride.

Thank you everyone for the prayers and well wishes.

My wife, Donna, went down yesterday.  She was out riding with a friend, they were south bound on I-75 just north of Chattanooga.  The 18 wheeler in front of her had the drive shaft drop out of truck.  My wife hit it as 70 mph.  Her friend says she tried to stay on bike but it was flopping side to side everywhere.  She came off the bike and slid and rolled down the interstate for 50 yards or so.  It was heavy traffic and luckily all the traffic could stop.

The Lord had to be watching out for her.  On her left side she has a broken clavicle, three broken ribs and a broken wrist.  On her right side she has a sprained ankle.  After 13 hours at the hospital I was able to bring her home at 3:00 am last night.  It sure could have been a lot worse.

She is doing well, and in good spirits.  She is worried about her bike.

Prayers for her pain to dissipate are greatly appreciated.
Dave so sorry to hear about this.. she certainly has all the prayers and all the best for a speedy recovery..so happy it wasn't worse.  Prayers for her bike as well..
all the best,
Patrick

Sorry to hear this but she is clearly in good spirits and that is great! I am sure she will have a speedy recovery!

I am amazed at the damage to the rims.  I imagine a semi truck drive shaft is much bigger than a car drive shaft. My wife and I hit a giant pot hole once when we were loaded down going to Panama for the rally and I thought for sure we damaged the rims but everything was perfect.

Bless her heart anyhow..Worrying bout the bike she's a true blue trooper. I wish her well and gotta say I never mess with semis, I pass em or stay clear away. They throw treads all the time, they litter the highway, and that's what I always worry about. Best wishes to you both ( or all 3 counting the bike.) Hate to hear about any biker going down, but especially a honey biker.

Kind regards:
Kevin

Wishing her a speedy recovery.

Looking at the pictures you posted, I don't think anyone could have done better than she did at 70mph. Yes, she hit the "obstacle" head on and rode over over it, but with instant tire deflation and busted rims there was not much she could do. Not too many folks can ride on both flat tires at 70mph while recovering from a bounce. I put quotes on the word obstacle because that drive shaft might as well have been a iron girder I beam, not that 2x4 lumber the MSF makes you ride over.

Prayers on the way.

Thank all of you for the well wishes for my wife.  She is extremely sore and will be for a while.  However she is still in good spirits, and has a good sense of humor about it.  I towed her bike to SMHD yesterday.  Well it started snowing.  She sent me a text  "careful it's snowing, don't scratch my bike"

She is already telling me to make sure her bike is fixed, or she has a new one before the DR releases her to ride.

As was stated about staying away from Semi's, we both do, we stay way back or pass them quick.  My wife was doing 70 mph as she was leading some less experienced riders.  The truck passed them, and right after it pulled back into the right lane is when the truck spit its drive shaft out.

You just never know.  I do know it was not her time......

Bike vs Semi driveshaft at 70mph
« Reply #43 on: March 12, 2017, 08:58:07 AM »

These are the pictures of the front rim and rear rim of my wife's 2017 after she hit a 18-Wheeler Driveshaft at 70 mph.  The truck had just passed her, move back into the right lane at a safe distance.  Then the truck's driveshaft failed and came out from under the truck.  Also my wife could do was hit is square.  In the ER she kept wondering why she could not ride it out.  Showed her this pictures the next day, she understands now.
