Trouble in the neighborhood
« on: October 22, 2004, 02:31:23 AM »

Had a little trouble here in the neighborhood this evening.  All started with some new neighbors that moved in a couple houses down about three weeks ago.  One of them is a rider.  With something of an attitude.

I noticed a lot of looks at the new bike.  Finally one evening as I pulled in there was "company" waiting for me in the driveway.  Asked if I "want to race?"  I could tell just by the look that this might be trouble and the attitude was certainly being thrown about.  Trying to nip things in the bud I responded that I only race for pink slips.  Figured that upping the ante would put an end to the problem.

In the intervening couple of weeks there have been other incidents and remarks.  Attempts to "play" or mix in traffic as I'd go through the neighborhood.  Inciteful comments.  That kind of stuff.

This evening when I pulled in I'm met by a waving pink slip.  "Can we race now?"

Having had enough of this I said yes.  Figured it was time to put an end to the hassles.  I say it'll be two passes out of three figuring the endurance of the new machine would make this a mechanism to turn the odds in my favor.  By the time we're lined up there are even some other neighbors out watching.   It was all terribly unseemly actually.

When all is said and done the new 7 year old girl in the neighborhood from two houses down had taken me two passes out of three.  Pink Schwinn versus red Harley Davidson racing from driveway to driveway on a three front yard long road course.  I had to go in and find something that was pinkish to give her to match the school pass form she'd offered up as her side of the wager.  I just hate defeat.  Especially when most of the neighbors are rooting for the other guy.....

I look forward to riding with all you guys.....even you Tony!

I was listening to some friends over dinner tonight. They we saying some stuff about 80% of Americans not having a passport. Someone, tell me that this is hogwash ....

Anyway if any of you lot are daft enough and take the trouble to visit this wet and windy God forsaken place. Then I will be daft enough and it will be no trouble, to put you (and your "man-servant" ) up for a few days.

[smiley=bath.gif]

I am not kiding! A friend of mine from Florida flew his Fatboy over this year for a jaunt.

Not all at once though. I haven't got a garage like AK's !

I do know other grown-ups who I ride with but most of us are quite childish. [smiley=huepfenjump3.gif]

I live 3 miles from Blackpol (see below).

Blackpool?  That's like the UK version of Coney Island or Ocean City  [smiley=7.gif] .  Definitely a generous invitation!  You're obviously a gentleman and a scholar  [smiley=beerchug.gif] .

Y'know what Tony?  It wouldn't surprise me if 80% of Americans were without passport.  What's the old line?  Something like "with a British passport and the Yankee dollar you can go anyplace."  Well, most Americans don't worry a lot about going anyplace else.  Part of it may be that we're a big country.  Part of it may also be that we don't look beyond the horizon as much as we should.

In any case, at least some of our passports have got a few electronic scans to their name.  And riding old England would be a bonny trip too.  Something to think about all winter  [smiley=huepfenlol2.gif] .  But what the hell would it take to fly a bike over as freight ? [smiley=nixweiss.gif]  That's almost a frightening thought.......
