Crawley Ridge Parkway Ar
« on: November 18, 2017, 08:47:23 PM »

Wife and I took a 4 day weekend week before last with the plan of finding a little fall color. Don't know for sure how my.wife came up with Crawley Ridge Parkway as a destination but she found a winner. Put lots of miles up and down the roads of Ar but this was the first on this route.

The south end of the Parkway is dirt, but with the rain it was hard packed and actually a very nice and interesting ride.

Very nice.  This is within an hour's drive for me and have ridden it several times.  But never this late in the year.  Hopefully we'll get a few more good weather days and we can check it out before the trees are totally denuded.

It was the first time we had looked that far east in Ar. Typically   by the time we hot Conway Ar we are turning north or south. It is definitely an area we will venture again.

I envy you.  I made the trip to Conway this past weekend.  But it was in a Ford Transit van loaded with 12 high school students and yours truly behind the wheel.  More than once had the thought "if I was on the bike....."

Don, that same thought runs through my mind pretty regular too, and I don't have the company of 12....lol. Wife and I have a name for people on bikes while we are in the cage, but will not that here.
We wanted to try and get a ride in up around your way but that didn't happen. Were ya lucky enough to get any color this year?

Did you go to the Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum in Piggott?  If not be sure to check it out the next time you are over that way.  Very interesting place,

The Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum and Educational Center in Piggott, Arkansas includes a barn studio associated with Ernest Hemingway and the family home of his second wife, Pauline Pfeiffer. Pauline’s parents, Paul and Mary Pfeiffer, were prominent citizens of Northeast Arkansas and owned more than 60,000 acres of land. During the 1930s the barn was converted to a studio to give Hemingway privacy for writing while visiting Piggott. Portions of one of his most famous novels, A Farewell to Arms, and several short stories were written in this studio. Both the home and the barn studio were named to the National Historic Register in 1982. The properties have been renovated, focusing on the 1930s era. Areas of emphasis for the Museum and Educational Center include literature of the period, 1930s world events, agriculture, family lifestyles and relationships, and development of Northeast Arkansas during the Depression and New Deal eras.

No we didn't but that.makes a good excuse for us to go back. I am going to say we missed a lot of sites on the north half. We were camped just south of Wynne in Village Creek State Park and the day we road north was cool and drizzling all day, so by the time we made it to Piggott all we was interested in was a cup of hot coffee for me and hot chocolate for the wife.

Did get a lot of color.  Went out for awhile today after it finished warming up to ride around for awhile and see what will probably be the last of it.  Lost a lot over the weekend while I was gone here.  Looks like had some decent wind.  It's been a nice last few weeks though.
