This was a pretty common problem when Harley introduced the new Road Glide fairing in 2015. I had one stripped and the dealer covered it under warranty. The mechanic tried all kinds of things to get the bolt out but could not. Wound up replacing the speaker enclosure which contains the seats for the bolts.

Mine all felt crossthreaded when I first got my bike and replaced the windshield. I was fortunate enough to ease them out and ran a dye over all of them before putting them back in--------also applied a small drop of anti seize.

Ya I shoulda known not to force it knowing what would happen but it would go in about half way then get stiff but I was in a hurry and thought it might take the torque. Now I don’t know how to get it apart to put a new zert in it

I ended up unscrewing the ones I could and pulled the insert out with the outer fairing, held it with pliers while I unscrewed it. Tapped the insert, mixed up the JB weld, applied just enough to hold it in, stuck it back in, waited for it to dry, ran the tap back in to make sure nothing was on the threads. Snugged it down last and it’s held through 2 more removals. One of these days I’ll order a new speaker in closure.

I had one go all funky on me. I pulled it from the fairing.

I used Epoxy to put the inset back in after cleaning it up with a tap. It hasn't been an issue since.

not to sound like a retard but how did you get the fairing apart with the bolt stuck in i thought the windshield bolts as well as the ones in the speaker housing and the bottom two on the deflectors held the front on ?

Like I said above, unscrew and remove the screws you can, and pull the outer fairing off the bike with the stripped screw and insert still attached to the outer fairing. Just get your fingers between the outer and inner fairing and gently pull it off.

My bike had pulled the insert out of the speaker pod. So I just needed to separate the insert and screw from the fairing.

No don’t take the lower fairing off, it won’t help. It sounds like the insert is just being held in by a burr in the hole. Use something flat and plastic to get between the outer and inner fairing and firmly use it like a wedge while pulling harder on the outer fairing and when it still won’t come off pull harder until it does.

So I brought it in for first service and told them to fix the windshield bolt turns out they need to order me a new fairing that takes 5-8 weeks so I told them I don’t have time to wait for that so they just melted a zip tie into the plastic from what I understand. I took it home on the ride home I found out the upper vent will only close half way so now I need to fix this problem lol can win. Anyone have any tips why the vent may be jamming ?

yes----------remove the upper fairing and check the speaker wire harness that runs to the fairing speakers. If its not in the right place it will jam the fairing vent actuator. Ive had to watch it on mine a couple times. Its not a big deal at all , just move the harness so the actuator doesnt' get interfered with .

With the fairing off I wrapped the screw with a small amount of silicone tape and set it in place with JB Weld. Let dry, unscrew and done. Better than stock !

I drilled holes on opposite sides of the well nut.  Grabbed with needle nose pliers and removed the screw.  The well nut came out damaged.  I replaced with a T nut and epoxy.
