Engine Case / Transmission Case Leak
« on: November 26, 2003, 08:26:42 AM »

I have just developed a weep (5500 miles) where the Transmision and the Engine cases are bolted together on my 02 FLHRSEI .  The problem is there is no fluid in the cavity where this weep occurs.  I have read on another forum where this is becoming a very common problem.

An unofficial response from the MoCo is that there is an alloy in the mating surfaces of these two cases and vibration will cause this residue to appear.  They claim it is not a leak.

The residue left on my bike is more like the residue you see when you polish aluminum.

Anyone else notice this on their bikes?  Is it obviously much more noticable on silver than black cases.

Thanks for the link.  Yup, that's it.  I asked an HD Tech on another site about this and was told "its mostly condensation between the cases... and shows up more on Silver Cases".  I have no reason to doubt this as it is never oily, more pasty than anything.

I have seen this problem on other boards where the dealer did the dye test and it DID NOT show up as a leak.  If I read anything more on this subject I will post.

Naitram,  you and I live close to each other.  Come Spring time maybe we can get together for  Ride?
