Amen to that Steven, amen to that.  Remember swapping words with TC not too long ago reading some brake research or white paper or something.  Good calipers and good pads really do make a heluva difference.  But whether it's 10' or a 100' it just might be the difference between sitting there giving the bird to the jackass that pulled out in front of you or doing an endo over the handlebars because you didn't get stopped in time.  Every little bit might just save your ass.

Even before this post I noticed way too much brake fade. I tend not to use the rear too much and the fronts just get mushy! This post put me over the edge.

 :) :) :) Thanks again EVERYONE for your imput!!!!  :) :) :)
TTYL,
Steven

Re-read this thread again & since the credit card is currently begging for relief (no new calipers for now):

Is there a brake pad that works better than stock for the stock HD calipers?

I plan to do some practice emergency stops/defensive maneuvers now as a result of reading this thread also.  Thanks.

iski, these pads are far superior to stock pads. Lyndall Brake pads. We get a discount thru this Lyndall Dealer. http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=9836.msg152198#msg152198

Two very good options for us Ski.  The Lyndall's Howie mentioned and DP.  Both make an immediate and significant difference.

Another vote for the Lyndall pads.  Better stopping power, much quieter, and although not dust-free, much less than with stock pads.  You'll like 'em.

Dave the Dyno and High Performance Specialist Tech advised me not to use the PM brake calipers. He said they look great but have had noise and alignment issues. Holding off on the Calipers for now.

Dave does this every day, I trust him with my life.... As you all trust your techs with yours.

My rotors are not the floating verity, most of your CVO's have them stock. These need upgraded no matter what so... New Floating rotors $500.00 and Lyndell 7195 Gold pads $56.00 as a first step.

If you have PM calipers or Brembro's I would like to hear from you, Please!

Thanks.

S...I'm not questioning the integrity of your source, but PM sells thousands of calipers every year and this is the first I've ever heard of any of them giving problems.  Which units?  What kind of pads were making the noise?  Alignment on what plane?  How many calipers made by PM has your source seen that have issues?  Four piston or six? :nixweiss:

I have Brembos on both my SEVrod (stock) and my Ducati.  The V occasionally makes a noise on the rear, but only under certain conditions, and that is from the pads, IMO.  They will be changed to Lyndall's as soon as these are worn out.

I completely concur with SP's disdain for those nasty terrible Brembo and PM calipers.  Unsafe at any speed (proper citations to Ralph of course).  In fact, because I love my fellow man so much, and the people here specifically even more; I am here to help.  You all send me those PM and Brembo calipers you've got.  I'll find a good use for them that won't hurt your bike.  Man, is this love or what  :-* ?

Looking for info so I can make an informed decision. I personally do not have disdain :huepfenlol2: for either.

The tech rides Brembros and recommended them highly. He rides a VRSCSE. Also concider who he gets his feedback from, us! Maybe if you spend 1000.00 for a brake upgrade and have OCD, when the first little squeak or noise pops up, you run screaming to the tech for an answer, maybe with a little buyers remorse. Whining about the grand you just dumped and knowing full well you still lack the skill set to use them!

While I was writing this Tarah from Brembro www.QTMI.com called me and gave me the low down on their product. Here is something I have not read in this forum:
Why four pads instead of two?
The newest addition to our caliper line up is the four piston, four pad caliper. This part is available for 2000+ front ends using the 12.6" rotor. (Tarah said a bracket for the 11.5 rotor is in production)

* The leading edge of the brake pad always gets better "bite." (leading edge yes) By having four pads, we have doubled the number of leading edges.
* Since there is full contact between the pad and the piston, differential bore is not needed, so we can use the largest pistons possible all the way around!

Tara also stated that if you were doing one or the other parts as an upgrade you would get the most performance upgrade from calipers.

I really like this forum we can  :argue: and still have fun,  :drink: to you all!!!
Tlanerider is such a nice guy :2vrolijk_21: I was trying to think how I could contribute :nixweiss:, being I am new here :nervous: :cherry:
Here is how I can help;
Chrome has a drastic effect on drag coefficientcy and overall weight, look at NASCAR no chrome!. If you remove all your chrome you can gain 3 sec on 0 to 60, 5 sec on a 1/4 mile and add 50 MPH! to your top speed.

There is a chrome recycle center near me. If you need assistance, just send it all to me and I will take it over there for you. They even have shipping reimbursement program !!!  :2vrolijk_21:

Being new her I want to do all I can to help, so please send all of that useless chrome to the recycling center, via me ;)

ps the guy in the photo is riding Brembros, wonder if I can do that on my UC  :)

Man oh man, what love we're seeing today too.  Steven will handle all that spare damaging parasitic chrome (it's ok D00d, don't stroke out man) and I was looking to help out with everyone's brakes.  Chit folks, no brakes and no chrome; between Steven and I everyone will be riding AMF bikes  :nervous: !

Damn Chip.  I started off scamming everyone's brakes.  Steven went after their chrome.  Now you're trolling for the spare ponies.  The poor crew here isn't going to have anything left when this thread is done!

SJ....no if's, and's, or but's, Brembo makes absolute top of the line calipers!!  I have them on both my other bikes.  On the SEVrod2, I'm unsure what HD did, but no brackets are required.  The only issue I have on the FL models and Brembo is the bracketry required for installation.  The PM, Hawg Halters, are direct bolt on applications with an 11.5 inch rotor.  It's just a personal thing with the brackets.

The four pad thing on the Brembo's sounds good too, and makes perfect sense that it would give the most pinch to the rotors.  I guess in the end it boils down to Brembo focusing more on bikes other than HD, so they adapt a caliper to many different applications through their brackets.  Easier to make a bracket than a whole bolt on caliper for every bike.

For me, at this point in time, the PM 4 pistons on going on both sides of the front fork, and on the rear, with new floating rotors all around to match the PM wheels I'm getting.

Wanna' buy a set of SEUC wheels, rotors, and tires?   ;D
