I have been using unfinished S&S cylinders and the Mahle pistons very successfully. I season them, bore and hone in plates on a Sunnen CV616. Last set was skirt coated by line2line and made 160hp @ 126" 4 3/8" stroke. Owner reports it is very quiet.
Have another set in work 130" same deal @130" 4 1/2" stroke.

Yes Sir, Joe sent me a youtube link of it @ 2nd heat cycle start up, real quiet motor totally belies what it is amazing.

Unfinished ,in what way? S&S 4.250 taken to 4.280 what spigot thickness remains 0.065"

No the bores slightly under and are not honed. Intended for a finished bore of 4.250, I bore to 4.275 and hone the rest.

You should hear that motor in person.  Zero Valve train noise, mechanically the motor is quite than a stock M8.  You can hear the cam lope in the exhaust.  It is an extremely strong motor.  Looking at the bike there are only two signs its not stock, the D&D exhaust and the sound of the exhaust.  Or if you look really hard you could see S&S on bottom of cylinder.

I just built my 2017 with Suburban SPeed 130 kit. Only mistake I made was I scrimped on the heads. Instead of waiting on CNC ported heads, I sent them my stock heads and had the the ports cleaned up.
Made 146 hp/149tq , I love it... but next time I'm not gonna be a tight ass and get better heads.

I exploded my compensator in 1500 miles..........so it makes lot tq

Not sure its the heads.  Friends 126 with cleaned up stock heads is over 160/150.

Same head work done on my heads, and i'm over 160/160.

I use the Mahle pistons. They have proven to be very reliable when fit properly and honed the same. The stock cylinders go up to 4.125". I am now using a sleeved stock cylinder and have also bought unfinished S&S cylinders which I true true the tops and bottom, bore and hone up to and larger than 4.250, and season them with heat cycles. Very soon KB will be releasing large bore line2line coated M8 pistons which will be a nice addition. I am a distributor for KB pistons.

FLSTFI Dave, What pistons you running? I see you used different cams than I did. I used TTS 250 cams and Suburban speed flattop pistions. I'm 11.5:1 compression. I see your lot more compression. Can you run on pump gas when it's hot?

I did the work for Dave. He is using the 130" pistons from Suburban (Mahle) flat tops and S&S cylinders. Heads milled and ported.

Mahle pistons with milled heads.

So far no issue with heat, hasn't been over 91 degrees yet.  93 gas is readily available in my area, and not hard to find 93 no ethanol.  I have also road the bike through out North Western AR in mid 80 degree weather on 91 octane.  Bike did fine, both in a group ride in the mountains and pushing it a bit.  I have also done a 750 mile day in just under 10 hours on it.

You're still thinking about what my finger pointed at when we only made 147 HP. Get set of Don's heads and I will tune it again for free!

All done with the burn outs and pushing it home?  :o  lol....

Smarty Pants............I'm good with the 147 hp. Just know there's more in there with different heads. I would if you weren't 1600 miles from here.
