131 Stage IV Kit
« on: September 07, 2020, 06:50:16 PM »

We now have these kits available in the UK and my question is do you have to use Street Cannon mufflers or is it OK to keep the original CVO items?
I assume the standard CVO Ventilator air cleaner is OK. Bike is a 2019 CVO Ultra Limited.

I have also noted that the header pipe in the kit (part no 65600177) is a standard fitment on UK bikes so I am somewhat confused why HD include them in the kits sold in the UK.

Would you go with the Screaming Eagle tuner or is there better options - e.g. V&H FP3

Thanks

From what I have been told from my dealer, in order for the kit to be covered under the factory warranty/ESP, it has to be installed within 60 days of the new bike purchase. I had it installed on mine before I took delivery of my 20 RGS using Street Cannons, Ventilator Extreme and SE Pro Street Tuner. A friend of mine wanted to do the kit on a 19 SGS that he purchased 6 months ago and was told that even using all EPA compliant components it could not be covered under the warranty. I'm sure there are dealers that will do in house warranty for their customers but if you break down while traveling it could be an issue.

If you’re not concerned about warranty then none of that matters and there are a lot of aftermarket options for exhaust, cam, tuner, etc.

I don't think the regular Ventilator would supply enough air.

The Euro pipe is standard in the kit and required for US models to meet EPA compliance. I guess one size fits all as far as the kit goes.

Yes - I understand the warranty issue but its not a major issue for me.  Just wanting to know if the kit works OK with the standard CVO mufflers and Air Cleaner

IMO the stock CVO mufflers and air cleaner wouldn't work well on a 131.

Yes, it will work. The ventilator is a hiflow ac from the factory, the mufflers are ok as well but I would probably swap them. I’ve got 8k miles on the 131 since feb with the ventilator and rinehart mufflers and the bike runs great.

I agree with Kojak, if you have the kit installed the way H-D intends the Ventilator AC and CVO slip-ons will work fine.

The supposed High flow ventilator and high flow heavy breather on the CVO bikes really are not high flow at all.  They can not supply enough air once you get over 120 HP.  Several builders have shown this to be the case.

I agree with Dave and watched it on the Dyno, My bike... After 120Hp the bike is dying from lack  of air... Damn thing needs to breathe Just like us👍

If one would simply look at the MAP data you would see that the stock Ventilator doesn't even breath well enough for the 114''. The Ventilator Extreme works MUCH better for all the M8's. Most any air filter kit that breaths out the sides and front of the filter is necessary on the M8 motors.

Arlen Ness Big Sucker is the way to go for extreme air flow. Just be sure to clean it at every oil change.

My 8k miles riding experience on this set-up says different. Not looking for maximizing this and that, real world, reliable broad band power is available.

That may be your experience it fine, as you're not looking for max.  But the fact is, it does not flow enough air to get the power that you engine is capable of making in its current configuration.  If you were to put and extreme ventilator or extreme heavy breather on, your bike would pick up HP and Torque.

One of the best tuners in the country posted that data shows it does not breath well enough for 114.  That is using engine map data.

So you may feel its fine, you may be happy with it.  But it does not flow enough air to support what the engine needs for max power in the HD kit

If you want to get the MOST out of your build.... Then YES... That would be like you or I putting a bag over our head and trying to run a 5k...

IMHO crazy to spend what the 131 kit/motor cost and not get it to breath best as possible..

Look buddy, im not trying to argue with you, I know you went all out for your build with big bucks. I spent 5k installed for the upgrade all in and my bike runs great loaded 2 up, up and down the mountains and down the interstate. Dont need builder opinions and online graphs to tell me different from what my butt tells me. This is from someone who has been in the saddle since 1974 and is pushing close to a million miles on 2 wheels. The guys asked a question and I answered as someone who has actually done what he was asking.

I’m not arguing with you I simply just asked a question if the stock air filter was good enough for what I was doing. I’m glad your 131 is humming along. There are a lot of opinions on here. Just have to take them with a grain of salt.

Well, the information Doc provided is Fact, not opinion.  He is on of the top tuners in the country.  He uses actual engine data.

No doubt Kojak's bike runs fine, feels fine.  Makes plenty of power.  No doubt very happy with it.

That said, a better air filter that flows more air it would make more HP and Torque.

Me, if I am putting 4K into a motor, I'm going to use an air filter that supports the most power possible.

What’s the opening size on the stock Ventilator?  50mm?

Throttle body is what 64 mm?
