How many Brandywine 2002 SERK's are still around
« on: September 25, 2020, 04:20:15 PM »

Probably an impossible question to answer, but it would be intriguing to know how many are still on this forum...

I have spent quite some time on the H-D VIN checker, along with a check digit generator, and I believe I have all the 408 VIN's confirmed by H-D. I also have quite a collection of links to ads from approx the last 10 years with different Brandywine SERK's, some of which I have the VIN and others that I do not have any VIN. So some of the ads could be of the same bike, but I fell pretty certain that I have at least 50 unique bikes covered. I also have at least 4 VIN's of salvaged bikes but there are probably more.

Of the 408 bikes there are 38 destined for California (identified by a "3" as the 8th digit) and none were so called HDI bikes (should have had a "5" as the first digit). So maybe H-D didn't use the HDI designation that early? The parts catalog definitely mention international models, and lists kmh speedometers. As a side note there were two purple SERK's sold brand new in Norway in 2002, so some sort of international models were definitely available.

However, is it acceptable to publish the list of VINs that I have? It would give some indication of what number in the sequence a specific bike would be, although there is no garantee they actually left the factory in that order.

My bike has number 1HD1PDC342Y950068 (no secret here, as this is public information here in Norway) and according to my list it is Brandywine SERK number 26 in total, and number 2 ! delivered to California. It has a production date of june 25th 2001 according to a label inside the left saddle bag, and was sold new by Orange County Harley-Davidson in Irvine California.

Anyone else want to share their Brandywine SERK?

As I said VIN numbers are no secret here in Norway, anyone can look one up, so here's another Brandywine SERK, number 1HD1PDC152Y950465:

Show your Brandywine SERK is a game I'll always play!  Here's mine in current form.

It's been several years ago but a group of us with these bikes tried to figure out how many were on the site then.  Me and two different Jeffs.  PJ still had his.  A few others I can't think of right now.  Best recollection is there were seven or eight known members with the red 02 SERKs at that time.

They were always rarely seen.  I've not seen another besides mine in person in a long time.  Years.  Have seen bits and pieces of at least eight different bikes parted out on eBay over the last ten years.  It would be interesting to know what's left but of course we never really will.

I'm afraid you're right. We'll never know the whereabout of all 408. Even if we got 100 I'd be impressed.

So, before I do something stupid here, is it OK to share pictures and VIN''s that I have collected from old ads on cycle trader, chopper exchange and other sites? Wouldn't want to step on anyone's toes, or right out do something illegal...

There are two more (so four in total) here in Norway. One has had an accident and has been repainted black. These last two I only have pictures from a restricted fb group so not sure I should share them here... But their VIN''s are: 1HD1PDC152Y950577 and 1HD1PDC162Y950698

Since that info was gathered from public postings on the internet it's free information and not any issues IMO.

Information coming from any restricted source(s) (even though it would only take a person being a member of Facebook and joining (and being approved by admin of that group) out of respect for that group probably would not be a good idea to public post info from it.

Here in the Screamin Eagle Road King section of the site you could start curating a registry of the known bikes.  Other sections are already doing that for other models here on the CVO site.  For the Candy Brandy SERKs it'd be a small group of us.  But.... so what?  Still fun and a little interesting.

Enough of the sad stuff for now. We'll hope they donated some parts that came useful to other SERK's.

I have a couple more salvage pics, but not with confirmed VIN's so I'll leave them out.

Lowest number I have from the sales pages is 1HD1PDC132Y950058. Was for sale at Zoom Motors in Reno NV. Don't have a date, but a mileage of 1638 and an asking price of 24500$ indicates it is quite some time ago. Also the fact that the bike looks bone stock, down to pipes, stingray seat and tinted windshield. Ad is still searchable on google though.

Next is more of a funny fact. It's an ad from 2011 in Weed CA. And although ad doesn't state the VIN, this bike has so much in common with my bike that I'm certain it must be the same. 18 inch wire wheels, Corbin studded solo seat with passenger pillion and backrest, Arlen Ness dash and V&H true duals all add up to confirming that this must be number 1HD1PDC342Y950068. Ad is still visible:

Next one, produced only three bikes after mine is a familiar one from this forum. Black Diamond revealed his bike's VIN in a post here so he is on my list. Hope he doesn't mind me sharing a pic of his gorgous bike:

And finally, the last one. Number 1HD1PDC1X2Y950820 is in fact the very last produced Brandywine SERK. All VIN's higher than 950820 are purple SERK's. For sale in Castle Rock CO. No date but an asking price of 24000$ indicates that it must be some time ago.

That concludes my list of SERK's with confirmed VIN's.

And maybe it is time to say a few words about VIN numbers. All Brandywine SERK's have numbers ranging from 950005 up to 950820. However not all numbers in between are in use. It seems they are in groups of 5-10 consecutive numbers with a gap of 5-10 unused numbers in between. So you cannot tell your bike's number in the production just by looking at the last three digits in the VIN.

Also the earliest purple SERK VIN I have found is 950831. I may be guessing here but doesn't that indicate that they made all the Brandywine ones before they started on the purple ones?

It's always been my understanding that the red ones were built first.  At the time red ones were seen in dealerships before purple bikes hit the floor.  Red ones were, obviously, way better looking.

Obviously. They are also faster and corners better. Come to think of it, I don't know anything a red bike doesn't do better. That must be allowed to say in a thread like this  ;D

You're absolutely correct.  It's just one of those universal knowns.  Red bikes are best, coolest, fastest, best handling, etc.

Here's the list of all the 408 Brandywine SERK's as I have found them. It is made using the H-D VIN lookup but I cannot garantee it is 100% correct. Also, it isn't confirmed that they actually came out of the factory in this order. So don't use this as proof that any specific bike is number xx of 408.

Dang, that averages out to a little less than three tanks of gas a year.  Bet that bike is pretty.
