Long Term Storage Question.
« on: September 28, 2020, 10:06:48 AM »

I'm off for another deployment in Afghanistan, I'll be gone at least a year.

My bike will be sitting for a long time, with summer grade ethanol fuel in the tank. I had my neighbor GoldWing John add some VP Racing fuel stabilizer and run the bike for 10 mins. Is there anything else that needs to be added to the tank?

The bike is on it's center stand to hopefully keep the tires round. The engine has Amsoil in it with 3k miles on it. It's in my garage and under a bike cover.

Thanks.

Ironhorse,
Personally I hate parking anything with ethanol in the tank. Modern fuel injection does help with storing vehicles with ethanol gas so you did everything you (or Goldwing John) could do. I always store my bikes (3 are carbureted and 2 are FI) with non-ethanol gas treated with Sea-Foam. Can you get Goldwing John to siphon the tank and fill it back-up with 100% gas? If not, starting the bike up and taking it for a 20 minute ride periodically wouldn't be a bad idea. Good luck and God Bless You on your mission.

x2 on ethanol fuel. That stuff is awful. Draws in moisture like crazy. Even if you have to buy the pure gas at Home Depot for 20 bucks a gallon for 2 gallons it would be worth. Ethanol starts causing problems at about 90+ days. The non ethanol has a 2 year shelf life. I dont even leave ethanol gas in my lawnmower over the winter.

And I assume you have it on a battery tender?

All good advice guys, thanks. I may look for a mobile mechanic to come over, siphon and add pure gas. I was called out so quickly I didn’t have time to do much of anything.

Yes JC it’s on a battery tender.
