Oil pump normal wear?
« on: November 10, 2020, 11:03:02 PM »

Doing the 117 kit on my 2015 cvo road glide 27.5K miles. Got the cam chest apart and doing the inspection on parts. The lifters and cams look great no scoring and free rolling bearings. The oil pump has some wear/scoring on one side of the housing bore less than 180 degrees of the surface the rest of the ID is pristine. The groves in the scored area are estimated at 0.001-0.003 deep by the fingernail test and appear to be from the larger rotor as it has matching wear on the outer diameter. Similar groves in the contact area between the large rotor and the cam plate. the teeth on the pump look great, no wear visible. Oil pressure has always been good and I did not plan on change out of the pump. The Crank bearing area in the cam plate has some wear that only appears on one half the inside diameter of the bearing surface no groves in the bearing or crank surface.  I am going to pick up a dial indicator base tomorrow to check crank run out.  Should I change out the pump or will the new one do the same thing as soon as I start it up?

Yea that be my thought . I want to know what it is. When I picked up the used CVO fat bob with 8k miles on it I was asked about warranty . I said why would I do that put stock Harley parts back in like the crank for one the great lifters , oil pump . I finally said no way . I just us SS like both of my other money pits .  I use dark house or SS or several others before I use Harley cranks

Crankshaft runout is slightly less than 0.004" in the cases.
