Rubber cracking
« on: November 29, 2020, 08:46:39 AM »

Running Michelin Commander 2's  they got 5,825 miles.

This cracking is on both sides all around the tyre. I'm not to concerned about it as it's just small cracking but will keep an eye on it for getting worse.

BTW, it's in the same place around the tyre

Anyone have this experience with C2s?

Is this just the rear? Or both?
Assuming normal riding and no canyon carving, hot rodding, with proper pressure I would be checking it often.
MAY be a poor QC or production run? Worth to keep an eye on it.
Just my 2c.

Just the rear Mike,....and yeah no hot rodding. I'm just a straight pleasure rider may hit 75/80/90 mph on the motorway for a short  run overtaking or joining the motorway but as a norm I'm a speed limit rider.

Was just wondering if anyone else with Commander 2's has had this with their rubber

One of our guys here has those tires on a street glide, he decided to reduce the rear pressure from 41 to 25 psi because he thought it rode too hard.
He needs better shocks.
Told him not a good idea, I’ll look at HIS rear tire next week to see if it shows wear like yours.

I know the Commander 3 they stopped production on. I ordered those for my 2019 SG and canceled the order after 2.5 months of waiting. The front you can get. It’s just the back. They had a structural issue with the tire. But the 2’s I’ve only heard very good reviews about.

I have the II's on my 08 Rk. Both front and rears are cupping. They are terrible in the rain as well. I plan on going to the OE dunlops this year. To be fair, they were on the bike when I bought it 2 seasons ago and air pressure has been set as per the manual and not per tire recommendations. But the manual specifies radials not these bias tires.

Looking at this and wondering if the tires are old?   Is the rubber drying out?  I believe tires 5 years old need to be replaced.
