Reduced Reach Clutch/Brake Levers
« on: December 03, 2020, 10:02:29 PM »

Any tried & true experience with these ? I called Soft Brake, spoke with Rick & his claim is he designed these for the police academy as they were looking for the clutch engagement right off the handle bar & for the smaller hand rider as well... the best stock clutch engagement bike I had was my Jalapeño ‘05 SEEG (wish I still had her) install application I’m looking for is on my new Tri Glide during handle bar swap.

I have the Soft Brake reduced reach clutch lever on NY 2017 CVO Limited and love it. Brought the lever in to a more comfortable controllable position. Easier to control the clutch engagement on the hydraulic clutch.

I've read this off their site over and over, and can't make any sense of it:

"This product is an Exchange – Polished or Black Only only excepted for cores.  NO CHROME LEVERS EXCEPTED.  Core levers must be OEM only and not damaged, no exceptions."

"It's English Jim, but not as we know it!"  I'm guessing whoever wrote it means "accepted" where they've put "excepted", but what on earth are "cores"?   And if you can't exchange a chrome lever, how do you buy one???   (I'm guessing buy a non-chrome one and send that...)

I asked the same exact question when I called.... Rick @ Soft Brake states he now accepts chrome levers as a core.... Lol
Or you can keep your Cores & pay $45 more

:D Guess I'll have to wonder for ever what he means when he says "core"!

He states he takes the chrome cores, makes the adjustments needed, then the chrome get stripped & uses them for black powder coated  :D

I always call mine "levers", but I guess he dances to the beat of a different drum!  :D  Does he do brake cores too?

Understand this. I put a set on my 2020 SG CVO clutch and it did reduce the pull length, BUT it also will not engage the clutch safety switch interlock button. That means you will not be able to start the bike in gear and the hill hold feature on the new bikes will not work.

Core's are what we here in the U.S. call the original item that is exchanged for a discount when we buy an upgraded/refurbished item that the manufacturer can then upgrade and resell. It's been done for decades with things like radiators and brake calipers, just not so much as of late.

Hope this helps

That’s a game changer for sure

Thanks Rayson, now I understand.  Never ever heard the word used like that before, but I'll know what it means next time!

I switched to “Oberon” for a better (closer to grip) friction zone. They are available through “Hog Levers”, they work well for me.
