2019 FLHTKSE - Audio Upgrade
« on: May 24, 2021, 11:46:38 AM »

I have fitted a pair of HD lower fairing speakers to my bike (76000660) with a speaker expansion kit including a second amp for the 2 new speakers. Its all pretty much "plug and play" with the wiring  so happy that its connected correctly.

My problem is the Dealership can't "flash" the radio for the new configuration, the bike does not seem to recognise the second AMP on the DT2 tool?

Does anyone know if the "flash" should be done before or after the installation or does it not matter? I am now being told that nearly $1,000 of parts are not compatible with my bike which seems ridiculous to me. Any HD Techs on here that know how to do this with the DT2 tool?

Any help gratefully accepted

I ran into a similar situation when I added lowers and an extra set of Boom II speakers and an amp to my 18 CVO RG. I found a tech at a local Harley shop to do the install and he has figured out a way to trick the system into thinking that they are tour pak speakers. In your case I believe you would need to fool the system into thinking they are new saddlebag lid speakers?!

I even contacted Harley customer service for a work around and this is what they sent me;

Kelly,

Due to the Lowers not being an approved fitment on your bike,
Our tech team can't assist with non-approved fitments.

I do apologize.

So, in short you'll need to find someone with a Digitech or similar tool that can manipulate the system, but I believe that it can be done.

Good luck and let us know what you figure out.

The tech at my old dealer that flashed mine for the second amp never had any issues. He just had to look at the map and go figure out which one to turn on. Took him 10 minutes.

After looking at the photo you posted I have a question. Are you sure the power to the new amp is on and the amp is wired properly?

Hi Rayson,

The speakers are HD items and are supposed to fit according to the Parts book - here is the box

Hi OBB

All the wiring came in the kit and is "plug & play" so I assume its ok. I guess there could be a fault or broken wire in the harness but its all brand new items. I will check there is voltage on the plug that connects to the amplifier.

Still would like to know if the 2nd AMP has to be connected before the flash or if you can flash the radio before any new hardware is installed

Thanks.

I'm sure your choices are limited but I'd call around to other dealers.

Does your bike have saddle bag speakers already? if so you have 1 amp in the fairing, 1 amp in the saddle bag and if you added lower speakers you now have a total of 3 amps.  I installed the HD Lower speakers on my 17' and left the new amp unplugged until I had HD dip it on.  Apon installation there was a connector on the left side cover that was the same as under the seat and caused me some grief until I found the problem.  Did a write up on this site awhile back with pics.

2019 CVO Limited comes with Boom I speakers (2 in the fairing and 2 in the tour-pak) and 1 amp, I believe you would have to fit two boom I speakers in the lowers and not use the tour-pak speakers, or you could fit two boom II speakers in the fairing, the amp will handle those two speakers and fit two boom II speakers in the lowers, you would need another amp to run those, usually mounted in one of the saddlebags or under the tour-pak, I also believe both ways would require a flash and I wouldn't turn it on until it was flashed.

I have Soundz system, four speakers and 1 amp, 2 in the tour-pak and 2 in the fairing, I also have the DSP they offer, that system is plenty loud, 80 MPH with a full face helmet and can hear very clear. It was plug and play, no flash, but I did hear prices went way up. Just my 2 cents
