CVO Ultra Limited 2016: lookin' for a 10" windshield
« on: June 01, 2021, 06:54:15 AM »

Hello everyone.

I am a member of the Forum for quite some time now and, in the meantime, many Harley have passed under my ... butt!

I am not a great "writer" but I often read your posts: above all the ones about TRAVEL that makes me want to live in the States so I can travel enjoying wonderful landscapes.

I find myself having to " interpellate" you because after a good 4 years of glorious use for short trips, I will finally be using my 2016 CVO properly.
Why, because my wife has decided to get on it and do some longer Tours.

If the so-called "Buffeting" was bearable in the short run (granted, I do use the Fat Boy quite often) now it's making me a little nervous.

The best windshields are worth .... a lot: from an average of 120/130 USD, with import and various duties, you can easily get to pay 250/270 USD.

Do you know of any retailer that has EXCELLENT windshields comparable, if not similar, to those of Klock Werks or Freedom Shields in Italy or Europe?

I don't want CHINESE (I find it senseless to exaggerate the savings when you have spent so much to have a Harley, whatever model it is) but I certainly don't like to give the Italian State 130 euro!!!

Thanks to whoever will answer me

I recommend “Clearview” brand windshields. Made in Colorado with high quality I have had them on my Electraglides and Roadglides with great results. Consider the “flare” option to help reduce  buffeting. They have a great website at clearviewshields.com and the owner is hands on and reachable.
Good luck.

There are a number of after market mfgs. here in the US but I don't know of any lipped (recurve) windshields that are sold over there that you would have to pay the tax on.  Maybe some of your European brothers can lean in here and tell you of something available.

And that's the problem!  ;D
it seems that in Europe everyone is supplied by official dealers or they don't want to invest in quality.
For this reason you can only find low cost deflectors online that I honestly do not trust.
I've been looking everywhere for two days now....  :'(

Greetings! I will be following this thread with interest, as I too have a new-to-me 2019 CVO Limited and am going through the same challenge. Fortunately for me I live here in the States, but like you I need to get the right solution for my passenger buffeting. I tried the Memphis Shades 8 1/2, and it helps but doesn’t completely solve the equation completely so the next step would be 10”.

I also have a Fat Boy - we have the same tastes in bikes it would seem :)

Here’s hoping you can find a reasonable solution!

Thanks. The Memphis Shades is quite upright and has a nice big flare, and looks awesome. Unfortunately (only for this reason :) ) the wife is tall and sits quite a bit above me. I really thought the MS shield would do it, as it pushed the turbulence several inches higher than the original shield.

I suspect that is the same for the OP and why he’s looking for 10” also.

The age old quandary… just need a couple more inches!  :-\

You show California as your home.  I believe that many of the CVO owners in Nor Cal are riding with Windvest out of San Jose area.  My wife is fine with the 10" however, she's only 5'5".  I still ride with Windvest although I've left California.

What about the Original 10”? Does it work fine? I see it has a Touring shape: larger on the base and curved on the edge.

Does anyone of you have already tried it?

Are you talking about the limited or the SG? You have 2 touring bikes in your signature.

The stock 10" windshield on my 2021 limited works perfect at directing the wind up over my head and my wife's head. I'm 6ft. tall and using the stock seat. This will probably be a cheaper option for you if you have a local HD dealership in Italy

I've been very happy with my Freedom Shield. Made in USA. https://freedomshields.net/

I've been very happy with my Freedom Shield. Made in USA. https://freedomshields.net/

I also chose to go with a Freedom shield that's dark grey tint in the 8" non touring version which doesn't stick out past the top of the fairing. As far as wind buffeting I'd say its equivalent to the stock 10" shield that came on my 2021 Limited. Again I'm 6' tall using the stock seat. I'm very happy with the way this shield works and is constructed...my only hang up is the shade of the dark tint comes off looking like a milky brown color that looks funky to me. Maybe a bad batch of lexan material? I have a call into Freedom to see if this is normal
