I believe, in these difficult and mean-spirited times in which we live, there needs to be a message of Hope.

We can all use a single image that speaks to us of love, harmony, peace, and joy.

An image that suggests the universality of us all.

I have been sent that image, and I want to share it with you all.

All I ask that all of you take a moment to reflect on it.

Phew, that was a close one. I saw the rainbow and thought we were headed into another gay discussion. Thank god for beer.  :drink:

Is there a matching brewer's hop pocket protector?  Sorry, just could not resist.

Ahhhh, my old school days and the slide rule.  If only it could have been a hops slide rule, I would have been much more interested.

Is the IBU similar to a PH measurement?  I work in the food biz, non-alcohol, and PH plays a big factor in overall taste.

not really, an IBU (international bittering unit) was established to allow you to make changes to multiple variables and come up with the same results, just like the trial and error method, you will learn to understand how a five unit change or a twenty unit change will effect the profile of the beer. once you get the hang of it, it makes hop modifications a breeze, and you can make multiple changes, like batch size and wort density
and feel confident in obtaining the same results.

PH does play a big factor in beer flavor, some beers if not produced withe the right water conditions will be a disaster, I always start with o% mineral water or RO water, and then I add minerals to achieve the exact water of the beer style I am going after, my water profile program allows me to make additions of a variety of minerals and tweak it toa 98% match to the target water, I know, who the hell wants to do all this just for a beer :nixweiss: well I do, its my Hobby, and I love this chit, if they would have presented chem 101 this way I would have passed it the first time around :huepfenlol2: :huepfenlol2:   :drink: :drink: :drink: :drink:

Thanks for the explanation, Eagle1.  Hops added to a desired bittering level - understood.  If Chem 101 had included beer, I migh have gone for a PHD in it.   :drink:

Agreed on the importance of water.  Changes the taste of everything, depending upon its makeup.  You make damn good beer no doubt.  :drink:
