Agreed.  Had some last weekend & liked it well enough to put it into rotation.  Lots of hops & full taste.

Have not had the Paulaner Double Bock, but I really like Paulaner & love Shiner Bock, so it seems to be a natural.

I had Shiner in Texas and Nebraska, I liked it too! Where's it from, I don't remember?  :drink:

Countdown to Friday...going by Total Wine tonight on the way home to get the "weekend supplies"...anyone have a suggestion on a Belgian White Ale?

we covered that style a few pages back, here's a link

I would have to agree, coors blue moon is the weakest example of this beer style, in addition to Hoegaarden Wit, you can also try, Vuuve 5, Blanche de Bruges, Blanche de Bruxelles, Brugs Tarwebier, Sterkens White Ale, Celis White (now made in Michigan), Blanche de Brooklyn, Great Lakes Holy Moses, Unibroue Blanche de Chambly.

There’s one significant flavor of this style, and that’s tartness or sourness. The fashion for very sour white beers has passed, and neither customers nor judges are likely to welcome its return, but a little sourness agreeably dries the flavor and seems to boost the contribution of the orange and the hops.

Traditionally, of course, the sourness came from a lactobacillus infection of some sort (old stale yack piss). At least one producer today inoculates the beer with a lactobacillus culture after primary fermentation, then pasteurizes to arrest its action when the desired degree of sourness is reached. Without this, it would continue to sour, with unpredictable results. Many commercial brewers are appalled at the idea of deliberately introducing a lactic culture into their brewing environment; such cultures have a way of being easier to introduce than to get rid of.

for me, it is this infection and the introduction of spices (especially orange & coriander) which lead to my conflict with this style

I am not a fan of Blue Moon, when it first came out they were an annual local brewfest in Ft. Collins, I didn't like it.

Another local brew I like is Left Hand Brewery in Longmont, CO. They have a really flavorful amber ale Saw Tooth, named after a local mountain.

Shiner is brewed by a long standing family brewery, still family owned.  The Spoetzl Brewery is located in Shiner, Texas between Houston & San Antonio. Good bock beer!   :2vrolijk_21:

Blue Moon is pizz water & they put some damn orange slice in it to try to fool people that it is something it's not.  Can you tell I'm not a Coors beer fan?   ;)

I am currently enjoying a Czech brew, Pilsner-Urquell, which I discovered at the local Publix grocery store yesterday.  It is quite good.  Give it a try if you haven't already.

Pilsner Urquell!   :drink: :drink: :drink:

Excellent choice, Terry.  My home area in Texas was settled by Czechs & this beer has been a favorite for years.  When younger we just drank it because it was there.  Now I appreciate it for being an excellent brew.

Enjoy   :drink:

From the local watering hole, micro brewery Boundary Bay here in Bellingham.

Get your half gallon growlers to go.

They brew: Amber Ale
Dry Irish Stout
Bellingham Blonde
Best Bitter (ESB)
Inside Passage Ale (IPA)
Scotch
Imperial Oatmeal Stout

I'm jealous.  Or envious.

Actually, both.

They even make a bottled beer that would be fitting as the official winter beer of CVOers worldwide.

A strong ale or "Winter Warmer" with dark red-brown color and a very rich malty flavor. Dry-hopped lightly with Cascades for a pleasant aroma and slightly spicy hop finish. This big beer is deceptively strong, yet tastes very smooth thanks to extra long cold conditioning.Original Gravity: 1.072
