Hey Erbody another FNG!!!
« on: April 19, 2007, 12:05:23 PM »

  Hello everybody I am an Air Force guy in Okinawa, who just purchased the 2007 SE Springer.  I will be having a friend pick it up for me until I go back to NJ in July.  I was wondering if anyone knows of a good Dyno guy in the NJ area that does SERTs cause I was planning on getting one put on with new pipes before he picks it up for me, and would like to optimize the tuning.  Second question (I know FNGs are only allowed 1 question  :nixweiss:) but does the SE filter that is stock restrict too much air and should it be replaced with the pipes and SERT.  The main reason for placing the pipes and SERT is to cool the engine as I have read that they run very lean due to EPA (esp on the 110s) and the added airflow from the pipes and the remap of the computer fixes this problem.  Who couldn't use a few more ponies and some extra neck snap to boot?  Thanx for the help that you have already given me in your posts,

Thank you as well for your service.  Hope you get some good ideas on a dyno guy etc.  Hoist should be able to get you some info in the NJ area I would think.

welcome to the site and thanks for your service.  I have a son in the Air Force stationed in Kunsan S. Korea.  I would change the paper filter to the K&N type they are less restrictive.

Hey Seegarsmkr, welcome to the site and congratulations on the bike! Bikes and gars go well together. Do you have a La Casa del Habano close by? Yeah, you probably do. Anyway, thank you for your service to our Country, and I'll smoke one to ya! You deserve a Padron '26!  :)  And ask as many questions as you want. If at least one person doesn't know the answer, we'll make something up.

Hey Erbody,
Thanx for the welcome...almost makes me want to... :pepper:  Regarding the service no thanx is needed; when you value something so much (freedom) it just makes sense to defend it against all enemies of that way of life.  It is my pleasure to serve and defend our way of life for all of you guys but even more for our children.

Woody any info from our great Garden State on SERT specialists or good dyno tuners?

Smiler--I chose the blue and dark blue, I really like the vomit yellow one but not sure I would after 6 months and red is kool but not sure of the longevity of my like of that color either.

Garz, I like Cubans so much I married one, mine has gotten better with age, but I think they are over producing the c-gars from Cuba I actually like Nicaraguans more, though I always have a few of the more exclusive Habanans around.

To our overseas brothers from Europe I may be going to Germany, next...this summer in fact, so maybe we can ride together.

Hey guys thanx for the advice regarding the K & N filter...f/u to that idea:

Which one fits/works best?  Does it need modification to the M/C?  Here is the one that I see in the on line cataloge that looks like it will fit but it does not list CVO as one of the applications.

Air Filter Kit for most '99-'07 Harley Davidson® Twin Cam Motorcycles

The latest addition to K&N's RK Series was developed to get more horsepower from your Twin Cam® Harley-Davidson® engine. Built around the legendary K&N High-Flow Air Filter, the new RK Series assembly includes an innovative powder coated billet aluminum backplate that eliminates external breathers and features a built-in, dyno-tuned velocity stack. The result is a significant airflow increase to the engine without sacrificing filtration. This RK Series assembly retains a factory appearance by utilizing the stock air cleaner cover, yet boasts superior filtration and performance with a K&N stamped laser-etched beauty ring.

    * Powder Coated Billet Aluminum Backplate Eliminates External Breathers
    * Features a Built-In Dyno-Tuned Velocity Stack
    * Retains Factory Air Cleaner Cover
    * K&N Stamped Laser-Etched Beauty Ring
    * Includes Washable/Reusable K&N High-Flow Air Filter
    * Does Not Fit Twin Cam® Engines with Magneti Marelli Fuel Injection System

K&N Part # RK-3909

HD also has one that looks like it will provide better air flow but does not look stock...I kinda like the stock look with the exception of the pipes.  There is a certain appeal to a "sleeper"  here is the HD version:

A. SCREAMIN’ EAGLE PRO “HEAVY BREATHER”
PERFORMANCE AIR CLEANER KIT
This high-flow forward facing exposed element Air Cleaner
Kit is sure to turn heads at the starting line. Featuring a
polished and chrome-plated elbow, this unique Air Cleaner
system offers improved performance and air flow when
compared to the stock or Screamin’ Eagle High Flow air
cleaner. The washable and rechargable filter features a
bright chrome end cap with a laser-engraved Screamin’
Eagle logo. Intake tube and backplate are made from die
cast lightweight aluminum, and are polished and chromeplated
for a brilliant finish. The backplate features integral
breathers and sealed breather bolt plug. Kit includes all
mounting hardware. All EFI-equipped models require ECM
calibration* (priced separately). For race application only.
29592-05 Fits ’99-later Twin Cam
models (except models equipped
with fairing lowers and ’99-’01
Touring models). $279.95

Welcome from sunny FLORIDA My updates on my SE Springer are Vance and Hines shorty Big Shots, retained the O/2 sensors and factory filter, oil cooler, saddle bags, chrome bullet spoiler, auxillary lights, chrome trim rings on turn signals. Engine performs great with no programmer change. I have the Commander III programmer but have not decided to install yet.

Good luck with the new bike and Thanks for your service to our great Country

Hey BC any chance you could attach a bigger pic(s) so I could admire a little closer.  Any issues with the ECU after the Pipes, or overheating at all, should be a good test being from Fla the weather should be warming up nicely about now.

:welcome_005: Seegarsmkr, need some pics when you get a chance  :bananarock:

I did the K&N filter, SERT, & V&H myself.  Very happy with the set up  :jalapeno: :carrot: :cucumber: :pepper: :bananarock:

Did you purchase it through the AAFES overseas car buyers program?  I knew you could get Harleys, but I didn't think you could get CVOs.

Anyway, lots to learn here  :2vrolijk_21:

D,
I did buy it from New Car Sales...you can buy CVOs but it is by lottery only.  I but my name in the hat in October  :zwtf::furious2:, they finally dropped 7 springers last month but none until that time.  The 7 were for world wide military sales which may sound like a lot because it is only for overseas military but all of the reservists that have served are eligible as well.  I tis ALL good now though  :pepper: The one catch is that they will not deliver overseas so I have to have a POA (power-of-attorney) pick up my bike until I can get there.  I also may be moving from Japan to Germany so I will have to re-crate it and ship it right off.  I promise I will take some pics or have my friend who is picking it up take some.  I will unite with it in July but the build date is June 1.

Couple of questions for you:

Which K&N did you use and how did it mount just as stock?  I was looking at the big radius by V&H as well what MAP on the SERT did you use?

Thanx in advance

Seegarsmkr,
Sorry for the delayed reply.  I used the HD-0800 K&N filter.  That's what was recommended on this site and at the dealership.  Initially they loaded a generic map of the SERT.  At the 1,000 mile service it was dynoed with custom setings.  Good luck man.  I hope all goes well with the pick up and delivery.

I've heard that European motocycle drives test is a real  :soapbox:

Thanx for the help that you have already given me in your posts,
Seegarsmkr (say it with me see-gar-smkr)
