Converting air front end to non air.
« on: April 28, 2007, 09:14:04 PM »

Has anyone converted their Pre 02 air front end over to standard cartridge style? If so what is involved? I remember reading about this once upon a time and forgot where I read about it.

I have the lowering springs from Progressive already. I just don't know if it is as simple as loosing the tube caps with air fittings in them in favor of tube caps without.

You could always just clip off a section of air line long enough to reach and connect the front forks together and leave them connected to each other. The result is the same.

Not quite the same as a newer style front end. ;)

I believe I'm after emulators and springs I think. For the most part the stuff that is in the 02 and up bikes.

EDIT: after some more reading the emulators will allow for an adjustable front end. I'm not after that as I'm only going in there once.

Next question. Does anyone have the parts manual for an 02 up Bagger with the front end diagram showing part numbers that they could post? I have the 01 exploded view which will allow me to compare parts.

I knew the SEUC had a lot of features but I don't know where the A/C is?

I'm on track now. I put Race Tech Gold Valve Emulators and springs in my '99. BIG difference. The install was no problem as their instructions were very clear.

I bought the left and right tube assy for an 06 bike with a fairing and put them on my bike. The 06 fairing tubes have emulator valves in them from the factor and the entire assembely is not very expensive.
I also used 15wt fork oil. The bike handles with a more positive responce now. Not the old mushy feel the 05 tubes had.

That is one route for me to go.  It's good to hear the install is straight forward. :2vrolijk_21:

I saw that in the MOCO wish book. It is relatively inexpensive. I thought it was a mis-print. :orange:

I put race tech gold emulators in the 04 SEEG.  They are adjustable BUT you have to take the front end apart to do it.  I took them out and used Progressive springs.  JMHO  I still have them if someone wants a set PM me.

The 04 front end I believe is different than my 01. I aspire to have an 04 front end. ;D

I'm curiuos if I can just install the lowering springs in my existing front end and call it done? OR do I need to add other parts?

Sounds to me like a Traxxion coversion would be right up your alley.

Check out the thread http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=12154.0

They have or can get any of the parts necessary for all of our bikes to make the conversion complete.

There is a group buy as well which would save a few bucks.  About 5 of us now have or are getting the conversion.
