03 SERK SEAT (who does a good re-stuff)
« on: May 19, 2007, 12:41:16 PM »

I would really like to keep the stock seat but I fear the seat is the same as the 03 RKC in that after 100 miles the foam compresses and you have a piece of junk.

What I would like to know if anyone knows of a company who will actually replace the stock foam with a better foam? I do not think gell seats are all that good and also I have tried the Air rider insert on a different motorcycle years ago and it felt like I was sitting on a loaf of bread.

BTW I'm around 265 lbs if that helps.

TIA,
Johm

I've seen those vendors at Bike Week in Daytona. They stuff the seats with memory foam. Sorry, dont recall the name.

Look into this. http://www.hdforums.com/m_761465/tm.htm
The turn around is a little slow but the customers seem to be happy.

Had my original SERK seat re-done by "Butt Buffer" in Hopeland, PA. They did a custom gel and replaced the HD fake leather with real leather, etc as well as the backrests.  Great worksmanship and as I recall, it took about 4-5 weeks. http://www.buttbuffer.com/

Joe,
If possible I would like to retain the original look of the seat. Also woudl you know if the RK seat could be used on a SERK?

Thanks

Check out Bill Mayers or Rick Mayers websites.  Both are VERY good and they use a foam matched to the riders weight.

If I was going to go that route I would go with the original Mayer seat design that was bought out by Russell Seat company as they still used the patented spring suspension. (Bill & Ricks dad invented the Russel seat) but they can not copy it as Russell Holds the patent. Or are they now just replacing the foam and leaving the stock seat cover intact?

I tried the internal Butt Buffer, I expected "well no improvement" at first it was only maginally better but now it is almost bearable so I will stick with that untill I can take it no more.
