What is the hole/plug in the front of my radio for?
« on: June 18, 2007, 09:18:26 PM »

What is the hole/plug in the front of my 2001 SERG radio for? Is it an input? If so how do I access it? Meaning when I scroll through the mode selections there is no AUX option.

Plug something (Ipod, etc) into it and it when you scroll it should show AUX then.

Hell, I'm thinking along the same lines as you guys are. ;)

I wonder if the remote CD has any affect on the operation of the Aux?

This is from the Roadgilde yahoo forums archives.

I also have a '01 SERG. This situation is unique to the '01 SERG. The
AUX input is overridden by the CD through another wired in set up in the
back of the radio.

Essentially what you have to do is either set up a switch on the dash to
use the CD or the front AUX input or you can unplug the CD from the back
of the radio and then the AUX input is available all the time.

I have heard rumors that some people have found/installed a input jack
back on the CD player in the tourpak. I have never found that one my self.

On the SERG's it's function is occupied by the CD player.  So it doesn't do anything unless the CD rack is disconnected.

Don, since I don't have the CD player on the bike (and it still doesn't work) do I need to disconnect the harness at the back of the radio?

I found a post over at Roadglide where a guy made an aux switch by tapping into the harness/connector. I'm waiting for his reply......

I went out this morning and pulled the fairing off and disconnected the CD harness (Output) and nothing, zip....

I am thinking that the front aux is not wired so you wouldn't be able to plug something into it while the cd player was in operation.

Since I have the four output wires already coming out of the unit I'm going to convert that to the standard round aux switch as outlined in an earlier thread.

Went out at lunch time and goofed with it some more. I took a old pair of ear phones with me, some jumper leads  and my MP3 player. What I did was tested the pins inside of the radio plug with my MP3 player on. Wala, it worked. I was able to identify which wires went where (except one). I than took the radio connector apart as to not splice any wires. I connected the new aux lead wires to these wires using the opposite side (Male/female) pins. I ran the aux wire up through my glove box drain hole. NO cutting or drilling. I have enough lead on the wire that I should be able to plug into a belt held device if so desired. This is all only temporary until my fancy radio comes back from repair! The screen still reads CD as opposed to Aux. Oh well I can live with that.

Good deal Puz.  It sounds like you did what I did once several years ago on one of these.  Just unhooking the CD deck in the back didn't "de-switch" the radio.  So on that buddy's bike I did what you're describing here.  It worked fine for a couple years after that until he sold the bike.

Good luck man!

You should be able to as the 00 didn't come with the CD player in the TP. (I don't believe)

Hey SCREEM, I've got a couple of boxes full of 8 track tapes if you've still got a way to play 'um.  Hate to toss 'em in the garbage.....same w/ the LP's and cassettes.  Pretty soon the CD's will be just taking up space in the attic.  :( har!  :drink: spyder
