Space Shuttle
« on: June 22, 2007, 06:13:49 PM »

Left the Dr. at 10am, came home, grabbed the cameras and loaded the bike. Edwards Air Force Base is the destination. Got the gate on Mercury Way just as the guard was closing it  >:(. Had to find another vantage point to see our tax dollars land. Found a spot with asphalt about 1/4 mile back and parked and waited. Lived here for 21 years and finally had the opportunity to see the Space Shuttle land. I was too far away for good pictures, but I did get to see the landing. Next stop, Florida to see the take off.  Wrongway
P.S. wanted a picture of the CVO in the foreground as it landed, didn't happen.  Sorry

Rockets are a lot cooler to watch when they're blowing up.  That's why underwhelming is good.

A really cool thread would be "What's the biggest thing you ever saw blow up."

Shaped charge.  Did you know that if you were to run a piece of det cord from Seattle to Miami, pull time fuze and take cover in Miami, it would take six minutes for the explosion to reach Seattle?  Pretty Cool.  No, I don't have hard copy reference.................just lore from an experience 19 years ago.
