Grandpa's Cycle
« on: August 15, 2007, 01:24:26 AM »

No telling what he's haulin' on his motorcycle, but he is surely off to work.  Looks like a camera and light.

Anyway, my Mom keeps going through the pics she has and here's one of my grandfather on his bike of the day.

Ride safe mi amigo,

Jorge

Hard to imagine when you really think about motorcycles and how long they have been around.  We live in amazing times, from the early 1900's to today, there have been some truly amazing developments.

Just imagine if our ancestors from only two generations before us could see the bounty of today let alone the inventions and everyday things we take for granted.

It is pretty slick though that I had the cycle thing going on in my family on both my mom and dad's sides of the family.

I still can recall my grandma telling me about riding two up with my grandpa.  I never had the chance to meet him as he passed away when my mom was eight years old.  Grandma related as to how they hit a bump in the road and over the hill they went.  She was never too excited about riding again.  She credited him with designing a two up seat for his bike.  I've seen the pic but haven't been able to track it down.

Looks like he's going out to fix the fence.  Is that a roll of barb wire?

I think it's a very early extension cord, two big wires twisted together and wrapped.  That can't be a headlight for the bike, can it?  Also, it looks like he's holding a camera.

Roger,
Great picture.

The canvas tool bag with the leather bottom, on the ground in front of him is still made today by Klien tools, very common with electricians and lineman.

Nice piece of history. Hope you find more.

Look a little closer your Grandfather is carrying a phone. That must be old telephone cable on the bars.

Roger,
That's a great picture. :2vrolijk_21: Can definitely see where your passion for riding comes from it was predestined in your genes. ;D The bag that Ed mentioned earlier we use them in my department to carry hose and appliances.
